2008 NFL Draft Busts

With the 2008 NFL draft fast approaching there are a lot of mock drafts out there and previews of the top players that are probably going to be draft in the first round or two. With this article we wanted to take a closer look at five players who will be missing out on the big money, and not because they didn't have great college careers. On the contrary, these guys overachieved in college but probably don't have the physical abilities that they would need to dominate their position in the NFL. Let's take a look at our top 4 disappointments for NFL prospects in the 2008 draft and why we think so. If someone drafts these four guys early, we will be quick to throw out the term bust.

1. Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii - This guy just beat up the record books in his time at Hawaii, throwing for big time yards, having a high completion percentage, and running up the score with an onslaught of touchdown passes. The problem is that scouts see a weak arm that benefited from a great system, and he was exploited in the BCS game against Georgia and hasn't impressed scouts since. This guy will be lucky to find a team in 2008, even though he was one of the best to ever toss the pigskin in the NCAA.

2. Shawn Crable, OLB, Michigan - Crable led the Big Ten with 28.5 tackles for a loss, which was also good to set the Wolverines school record, but this guy doesn't have the size to play the position in the NFL. He's skinny and not particularly smooth out on the field, which causes some worries even if he bulks up. This guy won't be able to hold his own against the bigger offensive linemen in the NFL, and if he gets big enough to do so, he won't be quick enough or agile enough to run down backs.

3. Martin Rucker, TE, Missouri - He had a great quarterback to make him look like a stud with the Tigers, but he was more of a big receiver than he was a tight end. In the NFL teams are going to want him to get into a three-point stance and do some blocking on occasion, and he is going to struggle to do so. The worst part is how bad he looked at the Senior Bowl against talented defensive players, putting even his route running ability into doubt.

4. Titus Brown, DE/OLD, Mississippi State - Brown was a star for the Bulldogs and played a big role in their 2007 turnaround, but he's only 6'3" and 239 pounds, a little small to be an NFL defensive end who has to push through 300 pounders. Mississippi State did get him some time in at linebacker, but he wasn't adept at reading the play and his agility was questionable at best.

Cross your fingers and hope that your favorite team passes on taking any of these guys in the early rounds, as we have a feeling they will quickly regret it.  See how we think the first round is going to shake out with our 2008 NFL Mock Draft and 2008 NFL Draft Predictions.
