2008 NFL MVP Predictions & Odds to Win

Written by -

The New England Patriots’ record-setting quarterback, Tom Brady, drew all but one vote in crushing the field to collect The Associated Press NFL MVP award in the same manner his team crushed its schedule, going 16-0. On the way to the first unbeaten regular season since Miami went 14-0 in 1972, Brady put on a performance for the ages. Tom Terrific is the +500 favorite to win the award again in 2008 as listed by Sportsbook.com. Jimmy Boyd takes a look at other possible MVP candidates who are showing better value in this NFL MVP predictions article.

Drew Brees: +1200 to win 2008 NFL MVP

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is showing the kind of value we are looking for in this type of wager. Brees is not a dark horse by any means, but he does pack a little punch with these odds. He finished runner-up to former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson for league MVP after his monster 2006 season. He was even better in 2007 setting team records for passing yards, touchdowns, completions, and completion percentage, but the team wasn’t as good. The Saints are expected to get back in the playoff picture this season and the two-time Pro Bowler will be a big reason why. Brees could easily take this home with a third straight monster season.

Ben Roethlisberger: +1500 to win 2008 NFL MVP

Big Ben has been a winner since he came into the NFL and he took his game to another level in 2007, setting team records with 32 touchdown passes and a 104.1 passer rating. Pittsburgh has a challenging schedule in the upcoming season, and if they get through it to make the playoffs, Big Ben will have had another monster year. Adding offensive weapons Limas Sweed and Rashard Mendehall through the draft gives Roethlisberger even more options to work with.

Adrian Peterson: +1200 to win 2008 NFL MVP

The 2007 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year may be ready to capture some even bigger hardware in just his second NFL season as the Vikes are expected to be the class of the NFC North. As a rookie, Peterson wowed when he broke the NFL’s single game rushing record, running for 296 yards against the AFC West champion San Diego Chargers. Peterson then went on to rush for 129 yards (second most all-time) and two touchdowns in the 2008 Pro Bowl to earn Pro Bowl MVP honors. All he has left to knockout is NFL MVP and he could do it in just his second season.

Phillip Rivers: +2000 to win 2008 NFL MVP

We still haven’t seen the full scale of talent that Rivers can bring to the table in the NFL, but it all might come together for him in 2008 as the Chargers are slated to make a Super Bowl run. With teams having to respect the presence of L.T. so much, it really opens up some nice passing lanes for Rivers. Rivers has already made the Pro Bowl and I’m expecting his best year as a pro this season. That just might get him the MVP hardware.
