2008 NL Playoff Predictions & Top Contenders to Make the World Series

Written by Jimmy Boyd on August 26, 2008

The Major League Baseball season is nearing an end. This means that the playoffs are fast approaching and many teams and looking to get in with big pushes and also make some deep runs. We have a good feeling of what each individual team is capable of doing. Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders for the playoffs and possibly a World Series Championship in MLB:

Quick Payouts and Big Bonuses at JustBet!

Chicago Cubs – The Cubs are well on their way to the playoffs as they hold a record of 81-50, which is best in the majors. Chicago has proved it can dominate teams at home posting all sorts of offensive records while holding a mark of 49-19. The road however, is a different story. The Cubs are a dismal 32-31 away from home and will need to solve this problem quickly if they want to compete for a World Series. They defiantly have all the pieces of a championship caliber team. For starters they have one of the deadliest offenses in the league and are led by Derek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano. The three have combined for 63 home runs and 231 RBI’s. Their pitching has also been very solid. Leading the way is Ryan Dempster with a 15-5 record and an era of 2.85. We also can’t forget about Ted Lilly and Carlos Zambrano who each have 13 wins of their own. I would say the Cubs are the favorite heading into this years postseason and it is going to take a lot to beat them.  JustBet has the Cubs at +340 to win the World Series.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Arizona got off to a spectacular start this season as they looked undefeatable. There have been a couple bumps along the road, but they are still among the leaders and look to be well on their way to a playoff berth and possibly more. Offense has always been their weakness as they can never seem to produce enough runs. They went out and traded for slugger Adam Dunn who has 34 home runs and 83 RBI’s this season. Dunn along side Mark Reynolds who has 24 home runs of his own to go along with 85 RBI’s and Conor Jackson who leads the team with an average of .300 should be a more balanced offense for the playoffs. Pitching is not a problem for Arizona who have ace Brandon Webb. He leads the majors with a record of 19-4 and has an era of only 2.74. Add in Dan Haren and veteran Randy Johnson and you have a good playoff team. I expect the Diamondbacks to make it to the postseason but it will be hard for them to win a World Series with the team they currently have.  JustBet has the Diamondbacks at +1000 to win the World Series.

Milwaukee Brewers – Nobody really expected the Brewers to have a real shot at competing this year after they got off to a poor start. They have clawed their way back into the picture and are looking to make a run at the playoffs. The acquisition of pitcher C.C Sabathia from Cleveland may have been one of the best moves this season. He is 8-0 with Milwaukee this year while sporting a tiny era of just 1.59. Sabathia has been dominating teams and if he continues to put up numbers like this then he is a shoe in for the CY Young award. The Brewers are also getting support on the offense end. Ryan Braun and Price Fielder are leading the way with 60 total home runs and 168 RBI’s this season. Milwaukee is going to make a big push into the playoffs and could surprise some people in the playoffs.  JustBet has the Brewers at +750 to win the World Series.
