2008 Oscar Predictions & Odds to Win
The 80th annual Academy Awards, better known as The Oscars will be airing live on Sunday, February 24th at 8:00 pm EST. This is one of the biggest star-studded galas of the year and we know you’ll be watching. There’s only one way to make your Sunday evening relaxation time even better and that’s to win some money by picking winners in the different categories. Jimmy Boyd lists the 2008 Oscar odds below, which can also be found at Bodoglife, to give you a look at the nominees and there chances of winning.
Which film will win the 80th Annual Academy (Oscar) Award for Best Picture?
Atonement 9/1
Juno 15/1
Michael Clayton 20/1
No Country for Old Men 4/13
There Will Be Blood 13/4
While Juno has enough little quips to make a British guard crack a smile, I can’t exactly justify it as the picture of the year. No Country for Old Men is the huge favorite in this category. With the track records of producers Scott Rudin, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, it is easy to see why.
Who will win the 80th Annual Academy (Oscar) Award for Best Director?
Paul Thomas Anderson – There Will Be Blood 7/2
Ethan Coen & Joel Coen – No Country for Old Men 2/7
Tony Gilroy – Michael Clayton 25/1
Jason Reitman – Juno 25/1
Julian Schnabel – The Diving Bell and the Butterfly 6/1
Again, you are going to here No Country for Old Men plenty on Oscar night. Including this year’s nominations for directing and Adapted Screen Play for No Country for Old Men, the Coen brothers have recorded six Academy Award nominations for their work in O Brother, Where art thou and Fargo. They have already taken home an Oscar for their writing in Fargo and it appears they’ll add to their trophy case here.
Who will win the 80th Annual Academy (Oscar) Award for Best Actor?
George Clooney Michael Clayton 8/1
Daniel Day-Lewis – There Will Be Blood 1/10
Johnny Depp – Sweeney Todd 8/1
Tommy Lee Jones – In the Valley of Elah 25/1
Viggo Mortensen – Eastern Promises 25/1
I’m going with an upset here. Daniel Day-Lewis is certainly one of the finest actors actors of our time and has already taken home an Oscar in My Left Foot back in 1989 and has two more nominations, but I’m going with Johnny Depp here. The accomplished Depp has two prior nominations but no Oscar. I like him to break through with his work in Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Who will win the 80th Annual Academy (Oscar) Award for Best Actress?
Cate Blanchett – Elizabeth: The Golden Age 25/1
Julie Christie – Away from Her 2/7
Marion Cotillard – La vie en Rose 7/2
Laura Linney – Savages 25/1
Ellen Page – Juno 7/1
I’m taking an underdog here as well. Juno received too much attention to walk away empty handed and Ellen Page certainly brought home the bacon, so to speak, in this interesting, light-heated film.
Who will win the 80th Annual Academy (Oscar) Award for Best Supporting Actor?
Casey Affleck – The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 9/1
Javier Bardem – No Country for Old Men 1/10
Philip Seymour Hoffman – Charlie Wilson’s War 16/1
Hal Holbrook – Into the Wild 12/1
Tom Wilkinson – Michael Clayton 14/1
No Country for Old Men gets another one here with Javier Bardem. He had a leading role nomination back in 2000 in Before Night Falls and this time he will take home the Oscar. He truly made this film.
Who will win the 80th Annual Academy (Oscar) Award for Best Supporting Actress?
Cate Blanchett – I’m Not There 3/2
Ruby Dee – American Gangster 7/4
Saoirse Ronan – Atonement 16/1
Amy Ryan – Gone Baby Gone 2/1
Tilda Swinton – Michael Clayton 20/1
This is Cate Blanchett’s category. She has already won the award for her role in The Aviator in 2004. She’ll get her due again.
