2008 Running Back Predictions & Odds on Most NFL Rushing Yards
BetUS Sportsbook lists 2008 NFL player futures in four major categories. In this article, Jimmy Boyd will be focusing on the running back position. He lists three tailbacks he feels have what it takes to lead the NFL in rushing yards. Remember, the best running back in the league does not always pull off this feat. It also takes other factors like having a good offensive line and getting enough carries. As is always the case for good futures wagering, we will be doing a little value hunting. You’ll find the complete list of NFL odds below of candidates to lead the NFL in rushing yards in 2008.

Steven Jackson: +700 to win at BetUS Sportsbook
This guy flat out puts up big numbers year after year. He still finished seventh in the NFC in rushing yards in 2007 despite missing five games last season. We also can forget that this is the final year of Jackson’s contract and he’ll be running for a big payday. I expect us to see the Steven Jackson who ran for over 1,500 yards in the 2006 season. He is the focal point of offensive coordinator Al Saunders’ offense, but it also helps that he plays along side a fellow All-Pro in the backfield in Marc Bulger. Teams must respect St. Louis’ ability to throw the football so they can not stack the line against Jackson.
Willie Parker: +1200 to win at BetUS Sportsbook
Parker finished second in the AFC and fourth in the NFL with 1,316 yards in 2007. Because Pittsburgh had the best defense in the NFL last season, the offense had plenty of chances to run plays and Parker’s number was called on many of those. The punishing Parker is a talented combination of power, agility, and speed. He would have won the NFL rushing title easily last season, too, if he hadn’t broken his fibula in the 15th game of the regular season. He was already fully recovered in March, running an impressive 4.4-40-yard dash in spring drills. He should be even better in 2008 as the team drafted Illinois’ Rashad Mendenhall to allow Parker to rest a few snaps here and there to stay fresher. With three seasons over 1,200 rushing yards and two Pro Bowl selections, Willie Parker is the real deal. He is showing great value to win the rushing title at +1200.
Frank Gore: +2000 to win at BetUS Sportsbook
L.T., last season’s rushing leader, may not get quite as many carries as we have seen in the past because he is getting up there in years, as far as NFL running backs go, and the Chargers cannot afford to have him injured come playoffs time. Gore rushed for 1,102 yards in what was a challenging year on and off the field. Mike Martz comes in and has said that Gore will be the centerpiece of the offense. Without much of a passing game, I look for him to rack up some big numbers. We’ll take him here at a phenomenal value.
