When these teams faced off in week 17, the Giants didn’t give the Patriots an inch on the ground. One might thing it was an odd strategy to crowd the line of scrimmage against the best passing team in the league, but Tom Coughlin was knowledgeable enough to know that the Pats had been doing a lot more running down the stretch. But with Super Bowl XLII being a warm weather game, Tom Brady and the Pats will be looking to spread the field and put on an aerial display like we saw for much of the regular season. If Strahan and Umenyiora are not able to get pressure on Brady, it could be a long day for the G-men. Keep in mind that New England’s offense is averaging 39.2 points per game on the road this season – nearly four more points per game than it is averaging in all games.

The Giants nearly pulled off the upset which would have ruined New England’s perfect regular season. Now, the G-men will get the chance to ruin New England’s quest for the best season in NFL history. The Giants are 10-1 on the road this season and it has been winning on the road that has gotten them to this point in the postseason. Eli Manning has been very good in the postseason taking care of the football and managing the game, but we feel playing risk free football doesn’t cut it against the Pats. A very solid performance against New England in week 17 will no doubt provide the youngster with some confidence, but will he be ready to star on the biggest of stages? If New York is to win this game though, we feel it will ultimately be because of its defense. The Giants are only allowing 17.5 ppg on the road this season and giving up just 17 ppg in the playoffs. Perhaps with Brady’s ankle not at 100 percent, the Giants pass rush will be able to get to the All-Pro, forcing him into poor decisions. One thing is for sure, New York will have to win the turnover battle to have a chance.
