2008 Verizon Heritage
Predictions & Odds
The Verizon Heritage Tournament at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head
Island, South Carolina is ready to tee off right after the Masters as usual.
While Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, and newly jacketed Masters
champ Trevor Immelman will be taking the week off, there is still plenty of
star power on the links. The disappointing thing is that we won't get a
chance to see if Immelman could have followed up his Masters win with
another win this week, making him the first to do so since Bernhard Langer
in 1985. I guess Langer will get at least another year to hang on to that
glory. Defending champion Boo Weekly will be teeing it up as will runner up
Ernie Els, who went down when Weekly chipped in for par on the final hole.
It's definitely not an easy task to put a long week at a major tournament
behind you to prepare for the next, but Jimmy Boyd's Verizon Heritage
odds and predictions take a look at a couple golfers with a great shot
to do so.
Bet Stewart
Cink at 14-1 odds at BodogLife.com
Cink is among the favorites with these odds, but that doesn't sour me on him
here despite my tendency to look for a little bit better value. Cink is a
two-time champ at Harbour Town and is coming off a nice third place pay
check at the Masters. Cink has been playing very solid consistent golf all
year long up to this point. He has two runner up finishes this season and a
third place finish at the Buick Invitational. His success has stemmed from
being one of the best at hitting the greens in regulation. In fact, he has
the 7th best percentage in this statistical category on the tour. He also is
the 11th ranked golfer on the PGA Tour in terms of scoring average this
year. Cink has been on the brink of winning several tourneys this season.
With his great history at Harbour Town, I think this could be the tourney
where he breaks through for his first win of the season.
Bet Brandt
Snedeker at 33-1 odds at BodogLife.com
If you didn't already know who Brandt Snedeker was, his strong showing at
the Masters has now taken his name out of anonymity. Sneds could all but
taste Masters glory when he battle shot for shot with Immelman on the front
9 at Augusta, but he blew up along with the rest of the challengers to
finish in a third place tie with the above mentioned Cink. If you watched
him play last weekend, he never appeared rattled even when the ball was not
going in the hole for him. This kid has a pure swing and the mental
toughness to bounce back this week and challenge for a title at Harbour
Town. He's worth a risk with these nice odds.
