2008 World Series Odds

The 2008 World Series odds are posted and now it’s time for futures bettors to have at it. I’m proud to say that I cashed in my futures wager on the Boston Red Sox last season as they defeated the Colorado Rockies to take home the title. Find out which teams Jimmy feels have the best shot at winning it all this season.

We’ll start with the defending champion Boston Red Sox who will be the pick of many experts to win the World Series. In theory, this looks like a good play, except that not many teams have been able to win back-to-back titles throughout history. Although, with Josh Beckett pitching two games in any series, it gives them a great shot to win. Check out my 2008 MLB predictions article to see if I’m backing Bean Town again in 2008.

Another AL team which could be poised to win it all is the Detroit Tigers. By adding Dontrelle Willis to an already dominant pitching staff and Miguel Cabrera to one of the best batting orders in the league, the Tigers will be a force to be reckoned with.

While Colorado went on a memorable run to advance to the World Series as a wild card in 2007, I don’t see the Rockies getting back there as they lack starting pitching depth. However, defending NL West champion Arizona could make a run at it. Brandon Webb and Randy Johnson were already a solid one-two punch, and now the D-Backs add ace Dan Haren to the mix. They might just have the best one-two-three punch in all of baseball.

Could this be the year for the Cubs? I can already see those banners flying on Opening Day at Wrigley, “Next year is now.” This marks the 100th season since the Cubs last won a World Series title and it appears that they finally have another team capable of winning one. With sluggers Alfonso Soriano, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, and now Kosuke Fukudome, the Cubs have a lineup to rival any in baseball. Carlos Zambrano and Ted Lilly also lead a strong rotation.

One can never rule out the Yankees even though it doesn’t look like they quite have enough pitching to get the job done. Top NL East teams, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies also have great shots at winning it all.
