1st Place: New England Patriots -450 to win the AFC East at BetUS – In 2008, the New England Patriots became just the second team in NFL history, since the league went to a 16-game regular season, to win 11 games and not make the playoffs. It was the first time since 2002 that the Pats had failed to make the posteason. Still, 11 wins with a QB that hadn’t started a game since high school isn’t too shabby. No need to worry Patriots fans, and I’m sure you’re not, Tom Brady is back and your Pats have not failed to miss the postseason two years in a row since Bill Belichick came to New England in 2000. 2nd Place: Miami Dolphins +800 to win the AFC East at BetUS – Bill Parcells was brought on board as Vice President of Football Operations to help the Dolphins get a plan in place to turn around the franchise. Parcells’ plan worked faster than expected as the Dolphins rebounded from a terrible 1-15 season to win the AFC East Division and make the playoffs with an 11-5 mark. You can bet that not even Parcells saw it coming. The Dolphins brought in Chad Pennington after he was dumped by the Jets and his efforts earned him NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors. The Dolphins also famously brought back the wildcat to leave defensive coordinators pulling their hair out. Read more about my Miami Dolphins predictions.

3rd Place: Buffalo Bills +900 to win the AFC East at BetUS – Buffalo got off to a fast start in 2008, but it finished very poorly. Now head coach Dick Jauron is on the hot seat and he is hoping that the acquisition of wide receiver Terrell Owens will get him off of it. There is no question that T.O. is one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game statistically, but his talent is often overshadowed by the distractions he has created. After three consecutive less than mediocre 7-9 seasons, we will see if T.O. is the answer to getting Buffalo over the hump and into the playoffs for the first time in 10 seasons. 4th Place: New York Jets +800 to win the AFC East at BetUS – I personally view the Brett Favre experiment as a success when you consider that he helped lead the Jets to five more wins than they had in 2007. If Favre’s arm could have held up, the Jets could have easily taken the division. I know there are plenty who disagree with me, and it doesn’t help matters that Chad Pennington went down to Miami and led the Dolphins to a division title just one season after finishing 1-15. It all doesn’t matter now as Favre is gone and so is Eric Mangini. Rex Ryan takes over as head man and rookie QB Mark Sanchez has Jets’ fans very excited about the future. Things seem to be on the right track, but they likely need at least a year to materialize. Read more about my New York Jets predictions.
