The Kansas Jayhawks are the defending tournament champs and also come in as the No. 1 seed following a regular season title. With the tournament being held in Oklahoma, you have to like the chances of the No. 2 seed Sooners as well. The Favorite: Oklahoma Sooners
The Sooners did not come away with the regular season crown as they finished one game behind Kansas in the final standings, but with the tournament taking place in Oklahoma City, I feel the Sooners have the best chance of bringing home the title in front of a lot of fans. Plus, a loss suffered to Kansas came when Blake Griffin was out with a concussion. The Sooners really feel that his injury kept them from winning the Big 12 and they will gladly take the Big 12 Tournament Title as a consolation. The NCAA Tournament selection committee will take Griffin’s injury into account as well so if the Sooners can win this thing and a couple other top teams go down early in their tournaments, they could play their way into a No. 1 seed in the Big Dance. Blake Griffin has proven to be one of the elite players in college basketball this season and he is being projected as the No. 1 overall draft pick this year by many experts. He averages 22.1 points per game and 14.2 rebounds per contest.

Another Team That Can Win: Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas was expected to have a down year, but ended up winning the Big 12 regular season title outright, which was something that last year’s Jayhawks, which went on to win the NCAA Championship, didn’t even accomplish. This team does not get the respect in has seemingly earned, ranking 11th in the nation. The Jayhawks will be trying to convince the selection committee further that they are worthy of a No. 2 seed and it may take winning this thing to do so. Kansas has momentum in its favor, having won 6 of its last 7 and 14 of its last 16. The key for the Jayhawks this season has been the outstanding play and leadership of point guard Sherron Collins who was pivotal in last year’s title run. He averages 18.3 points per game and 4.9 assists. Cole Aldrich has been instrumental this season as well, averaging a double double. To get the job done, the Jayhawks will have to prove that they can beat the Sooners with Griffin in the lineup.

2008 Big 12 Conference Tournament Recap:
The Jayhawks received the No. 2 seed in the 2008 Big 12 Tourney, but they proved they were the best team in the league by beating No. 1 seed Texas by 10 points in the title game. The Jayhawks, of course, went on to win the 2008 NCAA Basketball Tournament Championship.
