2009 Buick Open Betting Odds
The PGA Tour is headed to Grand Blanc, Michigan this week for the 2009 Buick Open at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club. Last year it was Kenny Perry who came away with the win, but he will not be participating this week. While fans are excited to see Tiger Woods back in the field, after he was forced to miss the tournament last year because of knee problems, there is no doubt the rest of the field would rather the star take another week off. With the tournament just a few days away I have broken down the field into the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots who I feel have a good shot at winning this weekend.
Favorites: Tiger Woods +120, Jim Furyk +1000, Justin Leonard +1500, Scott Verplank +2000, and Brian Gay +2000
After a dismal performance at the British Open, I think Woods comes into the Buick Open and plays at a very high level and I feel like it will take another player having an amazing weekend to top the best golfer in the world. Furyk could be that guy, and he has proven he can win at this event, as he did so back in 2003. Both Leonard and Verplank have won this event, but it was quite a while ago, as Verplank won in 1988 and Leonard won back in 1996. The guy to beat is definitely Woods, but anyone one of these guys could come away with the win.
Middle of the Pack: Nick Watney +2500, Woody Austin +2500, Brandt Snedeker +3000, Kevin Na +4000, Rory Sabbatini +5000, KJ Choi +5000, and Chad Campbell +5500
Another solid group of golfers with a little more favorable odds for the better, but Its hard telling which one of these guys will come out and play well enough to win this weekend. Austin might be the safest pick based on his play at this event over his career, as he won the event back in 1995 and has finished tied for second in each of his last two starts at this event. Other than Austin I like both Watney and Na to play well this weekend.
Long Shots: Andres Romero +6000, Michael Letzig +6000, Ryan Moore +6000, Mark Calcavecchia +6500, Daniel Chopra +7000, John Rollins +10000, Ken Duke +13000, Matt Jones +14000, Rocco Mediate +12000, David Duval +13000, and Tom Pernice +13000
There are a bunch of golfers in this group that could surprise the field and be there on Sunday with a chance to win. Duke, Jones, and Rollins all finished in the top 10 last year at this event, but its hard to say if they will be able to repeat that success. Both Mediate and Pernice have won this event in their careers, and could be a threat again this weekend. Everyone is still waiting for Duval to play like he did at the US Open, but its hard telling when or if he will.
