2009 College Football Predictions

2009 NCAAF Pred 8409I’ve broken down every conference in the country and now it’s time to reveal who I like to bring home the national championship. In this 2009 college football predictions article, I’ve listed my top three teams in the nation and why I like their chances of hoisting the BCS championship trophy. 1. Florida Gators – What’s not to like about the Florida Gators? Florida has won the BCS championship in two of the last three seasons and boasts the best football player in the country in Tim Tebow. Tebow has put up ridiculous numbers over the last two seasons, throwing for a combined 62 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions and rushing for 35 more scores during that span. Okay, so there’s the Tebow factor. Also, the Gators could boast the best defense in the entire country this season as all 11 starters are back from a unit which allowed only 12.9 points per game (4th nationally) and 285.3 yards per game (9th nationally). The Gators are my favorite to take home yet another national title. Florida is listed at +185 to win the 2009 BCS title at BetUS.

2. Oklahoma Sooners – The Sooners haven’t won the big one for a while now, but they have had little trouble getting to the big game. They are among the favorites to bring home a national title again in 2009 thanks to Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford’s decision to stay in school. For as good as Tebow was in 2008, Bradford was slightly better. He threw for 4,720 yards and a ridiculous 50 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. He will once again lead an offense which ranked no. 1 in the country in scoring last season (51.1 points per game). In addition, a defense which returns eight starters is expected to make improvements. The defensive front should be one of the best in the Big 12 with All-American tackle Gerald McCoy leading the way. Lastly, the schedule shapes up rather nicely. The Sooners get in-state rival Oklahoma State at home so all it will likely have to do is take care of business against Texas. Oklahoma is listed at +500 to win the 2009 BCS championship at BetUS.

3. Texas Longhorns – Star quarterback Colt McCoy gives the Horns an excellent opportunity to bring home their second national title this decade. McCoy is coming off an outstanding season in which he threw for 3,859 yards and 34 touchdowns and rushed for 561 yards and 11 more scores. He has some nice weapons to utilize as well with wide receivers Jordan Shipley and Malcolm Williams back. The offense will once again be top notch so Texas’ national championship chances likely rest on how well the defense can make up for the loss of star defensive end Brian Orakpo. The Longhorns will have to visit Oklahoma State ( a top 10 team in my opinion), but Mack Brown is a perfect 11-0 against the Cowboys at Texas. Texas has also won three of the last four against rival Oklahoma. OU will be looking to pay Texas back real bad, but if the Horns can find a way to win that game and not endure a letdown the rest of the way, they will be playing for a national title. Texas is listed at +700 to win the 2009 BCS championship at BetUS.
