2009 Crown Plaza Invitational Picks & Betting Odds
The PGA Tour will finish up its three week stay in Texas, when some of the best golfers in the world get ready to tackle the 2009 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth Texas. This past weekend Rory Sabbatini grabbed his first win of the 2009 season at the Byron Nelson Championship, and it was his first win on Tour since he won this event back in 2007. The defending champion is Phil Mickelson, but he will not be in action this week, as he continues to spend time with his wife, who just recently found out she had cancer. Even though it would be great to see Phil in action this week, you have to feel for him and wish him and his family the best of luck. For those of you wondering Tiger Woods will not be action this week, but I have taken the time to break down the field into the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots I feel have a shot to win this weekend at Colonial.
Favorites: Jim Furyk +1500, Paul Casey +1500, Zach Johnson +2000, Kenny Perry +2000, and Geoff Ogilvy +2000
While the big names of Woods and Mickelson are not in action this week, these 5 guys come into the weekend playing some of the best golf on Tour. Perry is a two time winner at this event, and guys like Ogilvy and Furyk have played well here before. Johnson is having arguably the best start of his pro career, and even though he hasn’t done much here over the last couple of years, he is a big threat to win this weekend. Another guy that I really like to win this weekend is Casey, as he is playing some incredible golf between the European and PGA Tours.
Middle of the Pack: Rory McIlroy +2500, Sean O’Hair +2500, Ian Poulter +3000, Justin Leonard +3000, Luke Donald +3000, Stephan Ames +3000, Steve Stricker +3000, Tim Clark +3000, David Toms +3000, and Vijay Singh +3000
There are a number of great golfers in this list, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if a bunch of these guys were in the mix of things come the final two rounds. Everyone of these guys are capable of winning, but if i had to narrow it down to just three, it would be Clark, Leonard, and Poulter.
Long Shots: Anthony Kim +4000, Mike Weir +4000, Ben Crane +4000, Brian Davis +4000, Davis Love III +6000, Chad Campbell +6000, Justin Rose +6000, and Briny Baird +6000
Normally its hard to find a bunch of long shots that you feel like could really play well on a given weekend, but I think there are a number of good golfers with some great value this weekend. Everyone is waiting for Kim and Weir to really break out and start being a threat each and every week, but the two guys I will be keeping my eye on this weekend are Davis and Baird, as I feel these two have the game to play well at Colonial.
