2009 NFC East Predictions

nfc east 8609This is how I see the tough NFC East shaping up this season. If you would like to see more in depth previews on each team, make sure to check them out in my NFL betting articles archive. Without any further delay, here are my NFL picks for the NFC East Division.

1st Place: Philadelphia Eagles +200 to win the NFC East at BetUS – The Eagles are not the no. 1 choice of the NFL odds makers to take home the East at BetUS, but they are my no. 1 choice. QB Donovan McNabb was healthy last season and played with an energy that I hadn’t see from him in quite some time. This team has accomplished about everything but a Super Bowl championship and that’s what the Eagles will be gunning for this year. I expect to see more consistency on the offensive side of the football and another big year from the defense to give Philly a shot to bring home Lombardi.  Read more about my Philadelphia Eagles predictions.

2nd Place: New York Giants +165 to win the NFC East at BetUS – The Plaxico Burress fiasco seemed to derail the Giants late in the season, but I expect them to put that incident behind them and compete for the division crown in 2009. The defense should remain tough with one of the best pass-rushing attacks in the league, led by Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck. The G-Men will once again boast an elite rushing attack, led by Brandon Jacobs. If the Giants can establish a big play wideout, they very well could win the East.  Read more about my New York Giants predictions.

3rd Place: Dallas Cowboys +275 to win the NFC East at BetUS – A 44-6 loss to the Eagles in the Cowboys’ regular season finale put an exclamation point on their disappointing campaign. All the trouble makers have been shown the door by Jerry Jones (Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson). Now the Boys have no more excuses. Wade Phillips must win this season or he will most likely be moving on, and Tony Romo must prove that he can win games late in the year when they matter the most. Dallas is not as good defensively as the Eagles and the Giants, and that’s why I have them finishing third. Still, the Cowboys will compete, and I like them to make the postseason via the wild card. And hopefully they can do some damage once they get there. After all, it’s been 12 years since their last playoff win.  Read more about my Dallas Cowboys predictions.

4th Place: Washington Redskins +600 to win the NFC East at BetUS – The Redskins got out of the gate strong with a 6-2 first half but went just 2-6 the rest of the way. Some blame head coach Jim Zorn for the collapse. Others blame quarterback Jason Campbell. But that’s the past.  The Redskins brought in tackle Albert Haynesworth to anchor the line and his presence alone should help a respectable unit improve instantly. But what the Redskins do this season likely falls on the offense. Campbell has to play better and with more confidence. The Redskins are good enough to finish with a winning record, and would probably make the playoffs in a couple other NFL divisions, but a winning record is not always good enough to get you into the postseason when playing in the NFC toughest division.  Read more about my Washington Redskins predictions.
