2009 NFC Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd on August 27, 2009

nfc 82709In 2008, the Arizona Cardinals shocked the world by rising to the top of the National Football Conference. Will another sleeper emerge as the best team in the NFC in 2009? Take a look at my NFL picks for the NFC below along with the NFL betting odds associated with each team’s chances of winning the conference championship. Below I discuss my top three contenders for the NFC crown and give you my prediction on who I like to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.  If you plan to bet on the NFL this season, sign up for a new account at BetUS where our readers are eligible for a special $500 match bonus!

Philadelphia Eagles +550 to win the NFC Title – The Eagles have been the best team in the NFC this decade with five NFC Championship Game appearances in the last eight years, including one Super Bowl trip, but Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb and company don’t have a Super Bowl ring to show for it. It’s Super Bowl or bust for Philly this season and I like its chances to finally break through. Just to show you how serious the Eagles are about winning it all, they took a gamble on Michael Vick to give them another offensive weapon and something else for the opposition to think about each week.  Read more about my NFC East predictions.

New York Giants +500 to win the NFC Title – I have the Giants getting into the postseason via the wild card, but that may not be such a bad thing when you consider that they won the Super Bowl in the 2007 season as a wild card team. The Giants have one of the best running attacks in football with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw and one of the best pass rushes in the league with Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck and company. Eli Manning got paid big time this offseason so if he can earn his paycheck, the G-Men could make another Super Bowl run.  Read more about my NFC East predictions.

Chicago Bears +1000 to win the NFC Title – Inconsistent quarterback play has held the Bears back since winning the NFC championship in the 2006 season. Now that the Bears have signed on Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler, I expect them to challenge for the conference title. The defense has not been as good the last two seasons, but there is plenty of excitement surrounding Cutler and I believe Brian Urlacher and company will rally behind their new quarterback. Plus, Chicago has an all-purpose back in Matt Forte, who looks to be the next Brian Westbrook or Marshall Faulk.  Read more about my NFC North Predictions.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles – McNabb regained his swagger late in the season and carried that confidence right on into the playoffs. With McNabb under center, the Eagles figure to put one of the highest powered offenses in the league on the field and the defense always causes havoc with its aggressive style. I like the Philadelphia Eagles to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
