2009 NFL Predictions
In this 2009 NFL Predictions article, I’ll discuss which teams I like to win their respective divisions and who I think the wild cards will be along with the posted NFL odds of each team winning the Super Bowl. Without any further delay, here’s how I see the 2009 NFL season playing out. Bet your NFL picks at BetUS this season to take advantage of a special $500 matchup bonus!
NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles +1200 to win Super Bowl XLIV at BetUS – The Philadelphia Eagles have one goal this season and that’s to win the Super Bowl. Head coach Andy Reid’s Eagles have arguably been the best team in the NFC this decade with five NFC Championship Game appearances in the last eight years, including one Super Bowl trip. This team is not getting any younger so I look for Reid and QB Donovan McNabb to give it one last go this season. The Eagles are my pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
NFC North: Chicago Bears +2000 to win Super Bowl XLIV – The QB position has been the spot that has held the Bears back in recent years so the move to bring in Jay Cutler should get Chicago over the hump this season. Cutler is a Pro Bowler and that’s something the Bears have had the luxury of having under center just once in past 44 years. The Bears should also benefit from the NFL’s easiest schedule on paper.
NFC South: Carolina Panthers +2500 to win Super Bowl XLIV – I like the Panthers to repeat as South Division champs in 2009. They have a strong running game with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart forming “Double Trouble” and Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith will still be one of the deadliest QB to wide receiver combos in the league. Plus, Carolina was 8-0 at home during the 2008 regular season and I expect that kind of home field dominance to go a long way toward the Panthers reclaiming their crown.
NFC West: Arizona Cardinals +2800 to win Super Bowl XLIV – With Kurt Warner slinging the pigskin to Larry Fitzgerald and with the addition of Beanie Wells to bolster the running game, I expect Arizona to best their 9-7 2009 regular season mark to win the West.
NFC Wild Cards: New York Giants +1200 to win Super Bowl XLIV – The Giants fell victim to the Plaxico Burress distraction last season, derailing their shot at a second straight Super Bowl title. They’ll put that behind them and come into the 2009 season focused and ready to make another playoff run.
Dallas Cowboys +1600 to win Super Bowl XLIV – Getting rid of T.O. is not going to turn Dallas into an instant division champ in my opinion, but they do have enough talent to make the postseason.
AFC East: New England Patriots +500 to win Super Bowl XLIV - The Patriots are clearly the most complete team in the AFC West. They went 11-5 without QB Tom Brady and with numerous other starters going down last season. Brady’s back and so are the Pats.
AFC North: Pittsburgh Steelers +850 to win Super Bowl XLIV – The Steelers have a foundation set to rule the AFC North for years to come. The defending Super Bowl champs should take the division title and just might have what it takes to get back to the big game. After all, they’ve won two Super Bowls in the last four seasons and more than any other team in the history of the league.
AFC South: Indianapolis Colts +1400 to win Super Bowl XLIV – The Colts won 12 games last season despite a slow start. They weren’t able to win the division and that will have them entering the 2009 season with a big appetite. The Colts have doubters this year with head coach Tony Dungy calling it quits and I believe that will fuel their fire even more.
AFC West: San Diego Chargers +1200 to win Super Bowl XLIV - Injuries to L.T. and Shawne Merriman set the Chargers back last season, but they still managed to win the division and a playoff game. The Chargers have had their sights set on the Super Bowl for several seasons now and they have the cast of players to get it done this season. San Diego is my pick to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.
AFC Wild Cards: Baltimore Ravens +2200 to win Super Bowl XLIV – Now that the Ravens have some offensive fire power to go with their defense, I expect them to be right back in the postseason in 2009.
Tennessee Titans +2000 to win Super Bowl XLIV – The Titans fall from the top spot in the South after parting ways with top defensive player Albert Haynesworth, but they don’t fall enough to miss out on January football.
