2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational Betting Odds

Arnold Palmer Invitational The Masters is just a couple weeks away, and for many of the golfers this will be the last week they play competitive golf before the season’s first major event. So at the 2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational, you can expect plenty of big names to give it there all on the very long and challenging Bay Hill course. While great putting is always a plus, the better ball strikers have a much bigger advantage this week at Bay Hill. The real reason to watch this week is Tiger Woods is making his 3rd appearance of the season, and at a course he has dominated throughout his career winning 5 times, including a dramatic come from behind win in 2008. To get you going on the upcoming event here is a quick breakdown of the field into the favorites, the guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots we feel have a shot at winning this weekend.

Favorite: Tiger Woods +250

Not very often do you get one player favored so much over the rest of the field, and it comes a little surprising to me because Woods has played just 2 times this season before taking 8 months off, and has only shown flashes of his old game in those two starts. I know that Woods has had a ton of success on this course, and you would think that this would be the tournament this guy gets it going and returns to form, but it’s not that easy jumping right back into the thick of things, even if you are Tiger Woods. I like Woods to play well this weekend, but as far as winning, I think there are better options for your money.

Middle of the Pack: Anthony Kim +2500, Kenny Perry +2500, Jim Furyk +2500, Padraig Harrington +2500, Retief Goosen +2500, Sean O’Hair +3000, and Vijay Singh +3000

Here we get a bunch of quality golfers but only Singh and O’Hair played well enough to finish in the top 10 here a year ago. Singh has played here throughout his career, and won the event back in 2007. Another player that has had some success here at Bay Hill is Kenny Perry, who won this event back in 2005 and finished runner up the previous two seasons. While guys like Furyk, Kim, and Harrington have the talent to win this thing, I think that besides Singh, O’Hair, and Perry, Goosen is a nice pick to win this weekend, as he comes in playing well of his win last week at the Transitions Championship.

Long Shots: Adam Scott +4000, Nick Watney +4000, David Toms +4000, Mike Weir +4000, Justin Rose +5000, Stewart Cink +5000, Zach Johnson +5000, Bart Bryant +6000 and Chad Campbell +8000

It seems like some lessor known player gets right into the thick of things at this event, and last year it was Bart Bryant who looked like he was in line for at least a playoff before Woods drained a long birdie putt on the final hole. Campbell won this think back in 2004 and is the only player in this group that has won this event. Its hard telling who will come out and play well here this weekend out of this group, but if I had to pick one player it would be Mike Weir, who already has two top 3 finishes this season.
