2009 Super Bowl MVP Odds

Super Bowl MVP Odds

If you are looking for some additional action during the NFL playoffs, you might want to try your hand at some NFL picks on futures. BetUS has listed the Super Bowl XLIII MVP odds. Not surprisingly, New York Giants QB Eli Manning tops the list. Manning is, of course, the reigning Super Bowl MVP. He is also coming off his best season as a pro throwing for 3,238 yards and 21 touchdowns. The biggest improvement Manning made this season was taking better care of the football. His 10 picks were a huge improvement. QB’s and running backs, or players who usually rack up the most touchdowns in a game, are most normally the players to take home this award. Guys with multiple Super Bowl MVP Awards like Tom Brady, are the reason why we should take a look at Eli here, but there are always other factors to consider. Manning go-to receiver Plaxico Burress will not be playing in the playoffs after shooting himself in the leg. Will Manning be able to rise to Super Bowl stardom again without him? If you think so, you can bet Eli Manning at +450 at BetUS.

The next in line is Steelers QB Big Ben Roethlisberger. This shows you the weight that the QB position holds in terms of winning Super Bowl MVP awards as Big Ben has not had his typical strong season. Battling injuries throughout the year, Roethlisberger threw for 3,314 yards and 17 touchdown passes but also had 15 interceptions. Big Ben has led the Steelers to the Super Bowl before, as Pittsburgh took home the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 5, 2006. Roethlisberger had one of the worst games of his career and of any QB in the Super Bowl. He completed just 9 of 21 passes for 123 yards and two interceptions. His QB rating of 22.6 was the worst in Super Bowl history for a winning QB. If that doesn’t scare you away from Big Ben, bet Ben Roethlisberger at +700 at BetUS.

Below, I have listed the the complete list of NFL odds to win the award and you will notice that seven QB’s of the eight teams remaining in the playoffs top that list. These odds of these QB’s correspond to the likelihood of their team making the Super Bowl and not necessarily to who is the best player. For example, Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner could be considered the best remaining QB in the playoffs, but Warner is a longshot at +4000 because the Cardinals are a 10-point underdog in their NFC Divisional playoff matchup with the Panthers.

Of the 43 Super Bowl MVP awards given out over the years, only eight have been awarded to defensive players. There are only two with odds listed to win the award and one of them, Ray Lewis, has won the award before. Lewis became the first linebacker to win Super Bowl MVP honors since 1971 when the Ravens won it all in the 2000 season. Lewis has been named to 10 Pro Bowls and has been selected as an All-Pro seven times. Just like when the Ravens won the Super Bowl, he has taken the defense back to the top of the charts as one of the best in the NFL. Bet Ray Lewis at +5000 at BetUS if you think he can win another Super Bowl MVP award.

Giants have been beaten today and Eli Manning was so bad. I doubt that he can win MVP.

Got something to say?
