2009 Verizon Heritage Betting Odds

boo weekleyThe PGA Tour keeps at it this week after an exciting weekend at Augusta where Angel Cabrera took home his first Masters victory. The Tour stays in the Southeast, as golfers get ready to take aim at Harbour Town Golf Links at the 2009 Verizon Heritage tournament. The key this week will be accuracy both off the tee and in the fairways, as Harbour Town not only has small winding fairways, but has some of the smallest greens players will face all year long. So for those of you that like watching guys let it rip off the tee, this is not your weekend, unless you like watching guys bogey hole after hole. For instance last year the average driving distance at Harbour Town was just 275 yards, a good 12 yards shorter than the 2008 PGA Tour average. One guy that seems to have this course figured out is Boo Weekley, who won this tournament for the second straight year last season. With so many guys taking the week off after the Masters, here is a quick breakdown of the field.

Favorites: Jim Furyk +1200, Camilo Villegas +1500, Ernie Els +2000, Paul Casey +2000, Rory McIlroy +2000, and Zach Johnson +2000

It will be interesting to see if Furyk, Villegas, and Casey can ride the success they had at the Masters, and turn it into another solid outing this weekend at Harbour Town. Furyk’s game fits well at this course, and it showed last year where he finished 4th here. Villegas also had success here finishing tied for 7th. While Els continued his recent struggles at the Masters, he has played well here, including a 2nd place finish in 2007. I also like Johnson this week, as his game is well suited for this course, and he also has played well here with a 6th place finish in 2007. Also you have to like what you saw in the youngster McIllory in his first trip at the Masters, and you have to think the kid plays well this week.

Middle of the Pack: Aaron Baddeley +2500, Kevin Na +2500, Tim Clark +3000, Stewart Cink +3000, Robert Allenby +3000, Luke Donald +3000, Davis Love III +3000, and Boo Weekley +3000

While there are a number of guys with better odds to win this weekend, the guy to beat is Boo Weekley, as he as played so well in his first two starts at Harbour Town, shooting 14 under to win it in 2007 and 15 under to win it last year. Na has 4 top 10 finishes this season, and finished 4th here in 2007, so he could be a threat to win this weekend. You also got to like the chances of Baddeley and Clark, as Baddeley played great here a year ago finishing tied for 2nd and Clark was great at the Masters and could be ready for his first ever PGA Tour win.

Long Shots: Charley Hoffman +4000, DJ Trahan +4000, Justin Leonard +4000, Lucas Glover +4000, Matt Kuchar +5000, Rory Sabbatini, Steve Flesch +5000, and Peter Lonard +10000

Its hard to pick which guys will come out of no where and shoot lights out on any given weekend, and its even harder this week when you have to deal with the tight fairways and greens of Harbour Town. Leonard looks like a safe pick, as he has finished in the top 17 in each of his last two starts here and won here back in 2002. . Lonard could be a threat to win as well, as he did just that back in 2005. If i had to pick just one guy out of this group it would be Flesch, as he played great at the Masters and has the game to play well at a course like Harbour Town.
