2010 Super Bowl MVP Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on February 2, 2010

Besides placing wagers on the spread, moneyline and total, it’s also fun to bet on the Super Bowl by placing some propositional bets. One of these such bets allows you to wager on which player you think will take home Super Bowl 44 MVP honors.

There is a long list of stars capable of taking home MVP honors, such as Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Reggie Wayne, and Reggie Bush, but Super Bowl odds makers have determined that Peyton Manning is the most likely to take home the award, listing Manning at 2/3 odds.

And rightfully so. Manning just captured his record fourth AP regular season MVP award last month, and he already has a Super Bowl MVP trophy to his name. Manning won the award after leading the Colts to a 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. He completed 25 of 38 passes for 247 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Another reason why Manning is the favorite is because the Colts are favored to win the game. A player on the winning team is the most likely to take home Super Bowl MVP honors and the quarterback position has brought home more hardware than any other.

So if you think the Saints will win Super Bowl 44, you might want to wager on Drew BreesĀ  at 9/4 odds to bring home Super Bowl MVP honors. Brees completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 4,388 yards and 34 touchdowns during the regular season and he has not slowed down in the playoffs. In games against the Cardinals and Vikings, Brees is 40 of 63 for 444 yards and six touchdowns. And Brees could be poised for a big day if star pass rusher Dwight Freeney isn’t able to go for the Colts. We have certainly seen the damage he can do when he has time to throw.

In the previous 43 Super Bowls, the quarterback position has taken home the MVP award 22 times. That means that there is better than a 50 percent chance that either Manning or Brees will win the award. But there has been a bit of a changing of the guard. In the last six Super Bowls, we have seen a wide receiver win the award three times. Just last season, Santonio Holmes of the Pittsburgh Steelers took home Super Bowl MVP honors.

Complete Odds to win 2010 Super Bowl XLIV MVP: Peyton Manning (IND) 2/3, Joseph Addai (IND) 10/1, Donald Brown (IND) 25/1, Reggie Wayne (IND) 10/1, Pierre Garcon (IND) 10/1, Austin Collie (IND) 20/1
Dallas Clark (IND) 12/1, Dwight Freeney (IND) 30/1, Robert Mathis (IND) 40/1, Antoine Bethea (IND) 50/1, Gary Brackett (IND) 50/1, Clint Session (IND) 50/1, Matt Stover (IND) 75/1, Drew Brees (NO) 9/4
Pierre Thomas (NO) 10/1, Mike Bell (NO) 20/1, Reggie Bush (NO) 10/1, Marques Colston (NO) 12/1, Devery Henderson (NO) 22/1, Robert Meachem (NO) 25/1, Lance Moore (NO) 50/1, Jeremy Shockey (NO) 22/1, David Thomas (NO) 50/1, Darren Sharper (NO) 28/1, Jonathan Vilma (NO) 40/1, Will Smith (NO) 50/1, Garrett Hartley (NO) 75/1, Field (Any Other Player) 10/1

If you’re looking for winning Super Bowl picks this Sunday, then you have come to the right place. Jimmy Boyd cashed in big with the Arizona Cardinals on the point spread last year, and he’s got you covered again!
