San Francisco 49ers at Buffalo Bills NFL Picks & Predictions

The Buffalo Bills will have some of their mojo back following a win over Kansas City last week to snap a four-game losing streak. At 6-5, they need to take advantage of this weak point in their schedule if they hope to keep their playoff hopes alive. Odds makers think they can do just that, listing the Bills as 6.5-point favorites with the total set at 43.
Not only did Buffalo snap its four-game skid, but it turned in its best offensive performance of the season. In danger of falling out of the AFC playoff picture, the Bills pounded Kansas City 54-31 on the road last Sunday. Either everything started to click against the Chiefs after a month of things going wrong or Kansas City is just that bad. I’ll say it was a little bit of both. QB Trent Edwards came through with a much-needed morale boosting performance, completing 24 of 32 passes for 273 yards with a pair of passing and rushing scores. His QB rating of 121.0 was the best of his career. Just how bad did he need a game like that you ask? Edwards had thrown eight picks, lost two fumbles, and took a safety during Buffalo’s skid. His ability to take care of the football has been directly proportionate to his team’s success this season. Edwards was intercepted just twice during the Bills’ 5-1 start. It was also good for the Bills to get top receiver Lee Evans going again. Evans had five catches for 110 yards against the Chiefs. The previous week he had been shut out against the Cleveland Browns. He is one of the league’s top deep threats, averaging 19.3 yards per reception, but as Edwards threw interception after interception, he quit looking down field as much. If you think last week’s win gives the Buffalo the boost it needed, bet the Bills at Bookmaker.
The 49ers could not stop T.O. and the Dallas Cowboys last week and the result was a 35-22 loss. Owens had 213 yards on seven catches. It was the sixth time the 49ers defense had allowed 30 or more points this season, and it was also interim coach Mike Singletary’s third loss in four games since taking over. The 49ers rank 29th in the NFL in scoring defense, giving up 28.2 points per game. The 49ers’ pass rush was not able to get enough heat on Tony Romo to disrupt the passing game. With just 19 sacks on the season, the 49ers rank 24th in the league in that category. It figures to be another challenge of getting to the QB this week as Buffalo has not allowed a sack in its last two games. Mike Singletary has liked what he has seen out of linebacker Manny Lawson and he hopes that giving the youngster more playing time will give the defense the boost it needs. Lawson missed 14 games last season with a torn knee ligament and was battling a strained hamstring last month. If he can keep the injury bug from catching up with him, Singletary believes he is a promising talent. Corner back Nate Clements, formally of the Bills, was called out by Singletary for San Francisco’s inability to cover Owens last week. Hopefully the corner will be able to do a better job in helping to corral Evans. San Francisco has shown that it is capable of playing good football, as we saw when it nearly upset the Cardinals in Arizona and I’ll go out on a limb and say that Buffalo is not as good as Arizona. If you think San Francisco has what it takes to play with the Bills, bet the 49ers at Bookmaker.
