Adrian Peterson Must Cure Fumble-itis
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is one of the best talents in the NFL. We saw his talents on display last Sunday when he torched the New Orleans Saints for 122 yards and three touchdowns. However, ESPN’s Kevin Seifert writes that Peterson’s fumble-itis is the biggest reason why the Vikings won’t be playing on Super Bowl Sunday.
Peterson had two fumbles and another missed handoff down by the goal line. In fact, Peterson’s fumbling is beginning to define his career more than his yards and touchdowns. He’s led the NFL in fumbles since he entered the league.
If the Vikings were in denial about Peterson’s fumbling issues, they now know that they can no longer take them lightly. In my experience of watching Peterson, most of his fumbles occur when he is fighting for extra yards so he will need to really focus on wrapping up the pigskin in a pile. But he also gets in trouble from carrying the ball too low at times. Peterson stands to learn a lesson from former Giants running back Tiki Barber. Barber was a fumble waiting to happen, just like Peterson, before he made a conscious effort to carry the ball high and tight.
