Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks NFL Betting & Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd

cards-seahawks-101509The Arizona Cardinals head to Qwest Field this Sunday to take on the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 6 NFC West Division battle. Last week, the Cardinals jumped out to a 21-0 against the Texans and held on for a 28-21 win. The Seahawks were more impressive, destroying the Jaguars 41-0 in Matt Hasselbeck’s return. Last season, Arizona took both meetings, completing the season sweep in Week 17 with a 34-21 win. The Cardinals have won four of the last five meetings to take an 11-9 lead in the all-time series. NFL odds makers are giving the edge to Seattle at home this week, listing the Seahawks as 3-point favorites with the total set at 46.5.

Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck got back on the playing field in a big way last week, delivering four touchdown strikes to help his team end its three-game losing skid. Hasselback has fared well against the Cardinals in his career, winning seven of his 11 starts against them. He will have an excellent opportunity to improve on that career mark thanks to addition T.J. Houshmandzadeh. The Seahawks’ wideout got off to a slow start, but he has really found his groove the last two weeks with 13 grabs for 180 yards and two scores. He and Hasselbeck may be able to light up the scoreboard against a Cardinals defense which ranks last in the NFL in defending the pass.

Defensively, the key will be getting to Cardinals QB Kurt Warner, otherwise you can expect him to pick the Seahawks apart. Seattle has mounted a strong pass rush at home this season with 10 sacks in three games at Qwest Field. If veteran defensive end Patrick Kerney and company can continue to get to the quarterback, the Seahawks will have an excellent opportunity to win. It is worth noting that the home team is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings and the Seahawks are 9-2 against the number in their last 11 games as a home favorite. If you like Seattle to build off of last week’s big win, bet the Seahawks at -3 at BetUS.

Last week, Kurt Warner joined some elite company. He joined Hall of Fame QB Fran Tarkenton as the only other player in the NFL history with 13,000 passing yards for two teams. With Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Steve Breaston, Warner has one of the best, if not the best, wide receiver units to work with in all of football. Fitzgerald is widely regarded as the best of this group but Anquan Boldin could be the key this week. The last time he played in Seattle, he dominated the Seahawks with 13 catches for 186 yards. When playing the Cardinals, teams have to pick their poison, and unfortunately, all three of these wideouts can make you pay.

I expect the Cardinals to be able to move the football, but they are going to have to come up big defensively. Look for stud safety Adrian Wilson to be a key to Arizona’s success or demise. He is one of only two active safeties with 18 or more interceptions and 18 or more sacks. If he can come up with some big plays Sunday, the Cardinals might just come away with the “W”. It is worth noting that the Cardinals are 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings and they are 4-0 against the number in their last four games as an underdog. If you like Arizona catching points Sunday, bet the Cardinals at +3 at BetUS.
