Arkansas State Louisiana Monroe Football Odds & Picks
The Arkansas State Red Wolves take on the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks Tuesday night at Malone Stadium in a nationally televised Sun Belt showdown on ESPN 2. The Warhawks are off to a 3-2 start, 2-0 in conference play, and they’ll look to keep rolling against an Arkansas State squad some experts felt could challenge for the Sun Belt title. Arkansas State is just 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, but the Red Wolves’ schedule has done them no favors. They have lost three straight to Nebraska, Troy, and Iowa. Nebraska and Iowa are ranked in the Top 15 in the AP Poll and Troy is the favorite to win the conference. Arkansas State won last year’s meeting 37-29 at home, but the last time it visited Malone Stadium, it went down 30-13. College football odds makers are expecting a tight contest, listing the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks as a pick ‘em.

Warhawks head coach Charlie Weatherbie has his team off to its best start in school history (since joining Div. 1-A in 1994) so you can expect their to be plenty of pumped up fans in Malone Stadium Tuesday night.
The Arkansas State defense has struggled, especially against the pass, allowing over 1,000 yards through the air the past three weeks. On the season, the Red Wolves are allowing 266.5 yards per game through the air for a national ranking of 107. The Red Wolves are better statistically against the run, partly because teams have abandoned the ground game due to their success through the air against them. On the season, Arkansas State ranks 30th nationally against the run. We’ll find out just how good Arkansas State’s run defense is Tuesday against a Louisiana Monroe team that runs the football very well. The Warhawks currently lead the Sun Belt with a 33.4 points per game average and they racked up 577 yards of offense against Florida International last game with 304 of those coming on the ground. Frank Goodin was the go-to guy with 163 yards rushing and he currently ranks fourth in the country with eight rushing scores. It is also worth noting that the Warhawks are 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games and the Red Wolves are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight road games. If you like the Warhawks to remain unbeaten in Sun Belt play, bet Louisiana Monroe at BetUS.
The Red Wolves have not played since October 3rd so hopefully they’ve been able to use that time to sort out some things on the defensive side of the football. If the defense performed a little bit better, Arkansas State might be sitting at 3-1 instead of 1-3. The good news for the Red Wolves is that they will be facing a defense that has allowed big numbers through the air in each of its last two games. Perhaps, QB Corey Leonard will be able to take advantage. Leonard finished 22 of 40 for 216 yards and two touchdowns against one interception to bring the Red Wolves back against the Iowa Hawkeyes in their last game. It was a gutsy performance in the face of tons of Iowa pressure. In fact, his 216 yards passing were well above the 171.5 the Hawkeyes were giving up per game coming in. The other thing looking good for Arkansas State is how much success it has had in the red zone. The Red Wolves have scored on 13 of 14 red zone trips this season.
Defensively, it’s time for end Alex Carrington to step up. Carrington was voted as the Preseason Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, but he has just 11 stops, one sack, through four games. The Red Wolves could get an extra boost from linebacker Demario Davis, who had a huge 75-yard interception return for a TD against Iowa. Both of these key defensive players will need to come up big Tuesday night for the Red Wolves to have a shot on the road. It is worth noting that the Warhawks are just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games following a bye week and the road team is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings in this series. If you think the Red Wolves can spoil the Warhawks’ 2-0 conference start, bet Arkansas State at BetUS.
Jimmy Boyd was a perfect 3-0 with his NCAA football picks during the week last week so make sure you’re playing who Jimmy’s playing on Tuesday night’s matchup!
