Auburn at Arkansas Odds
Two very exciting teams will face off this Saturday. Arkansas’s Razorbacks, the 12th best team in the country, will be visited by the Auburn Tigers, who are No. 23 overall. The Razorbacks last played against Texas A&M, a game in which they trailed at the half 17-35 but came from nowhere to pick up their fourth win with a final score of 42-38. Their win-loss record is 4-1 with the sole defeat coming at the hands of Alabama.
The Tigers current season looks similar to the Razorbacks. Their last game was against the then ranked No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks where the Tigers needed a come from behind win in the last two minutes of the final quarter. It ended with a 16-13 final earning the Tigers their fourth win in five games.
In the 2010 season, Auburn defeated Arkansas in the season’s most thrilling game. Apparently, the Tigers packed just a little more firepower than the Razorbacks and closed the game with a 65-43 score.
The college football spreads for Week 6 indicates that the Razorbacks may have the upper hand this time with a 10-point difference against the Tigers for a total set points of 63.
Auburn
Many thought that the Tiger’s offense would have to come through to keep up with the Gamecocks last weekend. Surprisingly, it was their defense that came through and got the job done, holding South Carolina to just 13 points on the day.
It was a slow day for Barrett Trotter with only 11 out of 22 pass completed for a poor 102 yards and a couple of interceptions. He did come through when they needed him, hitting Philip Lutzenkirchen for the game-winning TD. Trotter has currently thrown at least a single interception in four consecutive games.
With the numbers that Tigers are putting up, they ought to be asking themselves why aren’t scoring more points. The rushing attack is delivering about 246 yards on the ground per game. Michael Dyer is the main force there with 141 yards on the ground per game, but only a single touchdown. Dyer should have no problem putting up big numbers against the Razorback defense that is allowing 168.2 yards per game on the ground.
It was interesting to see how well Auburn stopped South Carolina’s running game. Prior to that contest they were one of the worst ranked rushing defenses in the country, but help Marcus Lattimore to just 66 yards on 17 attempts.
Arkansas
After the Razorbacks’ biggest come-from-behind finish of the season, they must be oozing with confidence coming into this game. In the first half of their last game, A&M scored five rushing touchdowns, but in the second half Arkansas only allowed a field goal.
Razorbacks’ biggest offensive threat is Tyler Wilson. The junior quarterback amassed 510 yards and three TDs over 30 of 51 passing last week. To date, he has achieved 1,517 yards with an amazing 10 TDs to only three interceptions. He should be able to take advantage of an Auburn defense that is allowing opponents 232.8 passing yards per game.
Wilson has plenty of targets to throw the ball too with five different players which have successfully received at least 14 passes. A special citation goes to the team’s big three in passing. They are Jarius Wright, Cobi Hamilton and Joe Adams. Wright leads them with a whooping 28 catches over 478 yards and five scores.
It is a good thing Wilson has been playing so well because Arkansas can do little to nothing on the ground. Ronnie Wingo, Jr leads the team with only 284 yards in five games.
