Ball State at Central Michigan Football Odds & Predictions

MAC-West supremacy is on the line when the Ball State Cardinals head to Central Michigan this week. Both teams are a perfect 6-0 in MAC play this season and the 14th ranked Cardinals are an unbeaten 10-0 on the year. The Chippewas would like nothing more than to rain on their parade with a big upset win. Bookmaker has listed Central Michigan as the 7-point underdog.

Escaping with a 33-30 win in overtime at Northern Illinois last week, Central Michigan did its part to set up one of the biggest regular season MAC matchups we have seen in a long time. The two-time defending Chips will look to defend their title against the undefeated Cardinals with a trip to the MAC title game on the line. It was no walk in the park for Central Michigan last week as they squandered away a 30-6 third quarter lead to eventually beat the NIU Huskies in OT. The wool was pulled over Central Michigan’s eyes twice as NIU recovered a pair on onside kicks to get back in the football game. A picked off pass by Josh Gordy in overtime gave Andrew Aguila a chance to win the game with a 40-yard field goal and he came through. It was huge the QB Dan LeFevour was able to get back on the field as the Chips will need him to be at his best this week. LeFevour, who racked up 310 total yards and accounted for four touchdowns in the victory. NIU’s near comeback may have been the best thing that could have happened to the Chips as it serves as a minor wake up call going into their biggest game of the season. Defensively, Central Michigan will have its work cut out for themselves. It has the worst passing defense in the MAC and allowed NIU to get back in the game last week through the air - not something the Huskies are known for. If you think the Chippewas are primed and ready to pull off the upset with home field on their side, bet Central Michigan at +7.

Ball State won 31-16 at Miami Ohio on November 11th to improve to 10-0 on the season and now they’ll face their biggest team in MAC play yet. The Cardinals have a lot more to play for than just a MAC-West title as they have been nationally ranked for more than a month and are among the top contenders from non-BCS conference for a BCS bowl bid. Ball State was far from its normally well-oiled offensive form against Miami, failing to score in the first quarter for only the second time this season and trailed in a game for only the third time this year. It was business as usual for professional QB prospect Nate Davis, who was 17 of 24 for 289 yards and a touchdown. While Davis did throw an interception when threatening to score in the second half against Miami, the Cards have not been shooting themselves in the foot for the most part. They are the least penalized team in all of football with only 26 on the season and have not committed an infraction in three straight games. Special teams is a big area where the Cardinals could stand to improve as that is very well what this game could come down to. The Cardinals have had trouble covering kickoffs all season and can’t afford to give up good field position to a top notch offense like Central Michigan. If you think the Cards can get to 11-0 this week and cover the 7-point number in the process, bet Ball State at -7 at Bookmaker and receive a 20% cash sign up bonus.
