Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl Odds

The Ravens are hoping that the third time is a charm as they face division rival Pittsburgh for the third time this season. It has been close but no cigar for Baltimore, which has losses of three and four points respectively to the division champs. I’m sure the Ravens are well aware that the third time was a charm for the New York Giants last season. They lost both of their regular season meetings with the NFC East champions Cowboys before knocking them out of the playoffs in the divisional round and going on to win the Super Bowl. NFL odds makers have listed the Baltimore Ravens at +400 to win the Super Bowl.

The Ravens defeated the AFC’s No. 1 seeded Tennessee Titans last Saturday, winning 13-10 as a three-point underdog. My clients and I couldn’t have been happier with the result as the win cashed in our 5* AFC Playoffs Game of the Year. But the Ravens will likely have to play better than they did a week ago as they were very mediocre in nearly every phase of the game.

QB Joe Flacco was 11 of 22 for 161 yards. He was out of rhythm most of the game and his numbers would have looked even worse had he not connected on three long gainers. He’ll have to be ready this week as we can expect the Steelers to bring the heat early and often. The passing game has not been able to do much of anything against the Steelers this season so if Baltimore can find a way to move it through the air, it could gain an edge. The Ravens were held to 140 passing yards in the first meeting of the season in Pittsburgh and only 90 yards at home in the second meeting.

The Ravens depend on their running game but it was nothing doing against the AFC’s No. 1 seed. The Ravens had 50 yards rushing on 30 carries, and their longest run was only 11 yards. Le’Ron McClain wasn’t much of a factor but veteran Willis McGahee made some tough runs in the fourth quarter to help put the Ravens in a spot to win.

The Ravens have boasted one of the best defenses in the NFL this season, but Tennessee was able to carve them up for 275 yards through the air because it made a conscious effort to throw the football away from star safety Ed Reed. The rest of the Ravens secondary had trouble sticking with the Titans receivers. The key was Baltimore coming up with three turnovers backed up in their own territory. The Ravens also know they will need to be better against the run, especially since the Steelers have got something going with their ground game. Baltimore missed a lot of tackles early in last week’s game which let the Titans get extra yards. Baltimore may have also caught a fortunate outcome with Titans running back Chris Johnson getting injured and being unable to go in the second half.

Like the New York Giants of a season ago, Baltimore has been a strong road team. Doing your NFL betting on the Ravens away from home has earned a 7-3 straight up mark and an 8-2 against the spread tally. If you’re looking for a little more value, than the Ravens might just be your call to win the Super Bowl.
