Baseball Betting Tips
People always want more baseball betting tips so we wanted to talk about young pitchers in baseball. It never ceases to amaze me that year after year there are many talent young pitchers who start the season out unable to do anything wrong only to wear out for the home stretch. This year there are a couple of pitchers that I have been keeping an eye on each time their turn in the rotation comes up. Keep in mind this isn’t a type of situation that is sure fire play every time one of these guys starts, but it’s another tool in my arsenal for making winning baseball picks this summer.First up, Kyle Lohse. Now Lohse is 24 years old and this is his 2nd full season with the Twins, but let’s take a look at his roller coaster ride of a season so far. He started the year out with a bang, going 6-4 through June 11th, but with a 2.91 ERA and opponents batting just .224 against him. Since then it’s been a hard fall for Lohse: 41 1/3 innings pitched and 46 ERs. His ERA has jumped up to 5.15 and opponents are now cracking him around for a .268 BA. He compiled 5 straight losses before finally picking up a win against Detroit on August 1st.

Another great example is Seattle’s Gil Meche. Meche looked to be on the fast track through the Mariners organization in 1999/2000 before a frayed rotator cuff slowed him down. He returned to Double A last year and started the season as the 5th starter for Seattle. After his first 2 outings, which were ugly, he settled into a groove, giving up just 1 ER in his next 4 starts. He kept plugging along pitching pretty solidly and picking up wins. After reaching 10-3 on June 26th, things started to go south for Gil. He gave up 6 ER in picking up the win and since then he has given up 27 ERs in his last 40 innings while losing 4 straight before he beat, who else but Detroit! Look for him to continue to slow down during the 2nd half of the year and with his history of arm trouble it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up on the DL.
The last pitcher we are going to focus on is Claudio Vargas. This 24-year-old right-hander for the Montreal Expos showed some big game promise early on. He made the rotation at the end of April and started out pitching really well, going 6-3 with a 2.82 ERA through July 3rd. Unfortunately for Vargas and the Expos, July wasn’t a good month for him. Losing all 4 of his decisions, and raising his ERA to 4.25 in just 5 starts. He pitched 23 innings but gave up a whopping 24 ER. This included his last start which couldn’t have been worse: 3 walks, 3 hits, 7 ER, while getting a big fat ONE out! This could be one of the best pitchers to go against for the close of the season.
Hopefully you picked up some information on what type of pitchers to look out for when making 2nd half baseball bets. There are other pitchers out there right now who fall into the same category and provide ample opportunity to pick up some good value with the MLB odds. Fantasy baseball owners might want to take heart some of these stats and either put on a fire sale to get rid of these pitchers or look at dropping them altogether. We might have one more baseball article for you later in the season, but with football approaching we like to start focusing our attention on that as far as articles go. Thanks, and as always, GOOD LUCK!
