Baseball Betting Underdogs
If you are new to baseball betting then don’t be worried that you tend to like the favorites more than the underdogs, this is a common mistake made by recreational gamblers. This same mantra is true in all of the sports, but it seems like baseball it’s exaggerated because they don’t even catch any points to help even out the outcomes. Losing is no fun, so it’s tough for some players to accept the fact that they are more than likely to lose their wager than win, even if they end up winning more money if they do cash than they would lose if things don’t turn out their way. We have betting on too many favorites as one of our cardinal baseball handicapping mistakes.

It’s always easier to find games that favored teams should win, especially if that team has a better starting pitcher taking the mound. It takes true skill to make baseball picks on teams that are underdogs and then have the stomach to bet on them. We always look at all kinds of factors when breaking down the MLB lines, but here are a few tips for finding a live dog.
Last 7 Games: Find teams who are playing well, and more importantly, hitting well, over the past 7 days. Some players get hot at the same time that slumping stars come out of their shells. We’ll use the Yankees as an example. When Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez start out the season batting around .250, you know they are going to turn it around at some point. Good handicappers and smart bettors will track both individual players and team averages on a daily basis. You have to be on top of all the latest info and that is why newspapers are important to baseball handicapping.
Splits: You have to break down how teams play in different situations. How are they doing both home and away, against right handers or left handers, during the day or at night. It seems that some teams do very well in certain situations and do not play nearly the same in another. If a solid home team is playing as an underdog in front of their fans, they are worth a look. If that same team is playing on the road then avoid them. You have to look at more than just wins and losses, another important factor is how the team hits in those situations. Scoring runs is important in winning any game, then take a separate look at how your starter does in the same splits. If he can shut down the opposition in a certain spot, then you won’t need as many runs to win the game and can take a chance on a low-scoring underdog, since you might only need a few runs in order to win the game and catch the bigger payout.
Remember, handicapping baseball underdogs might not be easy, but it’s the easiest to end your summer with more money in your wallet than you started your campaign with. Learn this and avoid the rest of our baseball betting mistakes and you’ll be ready to make big profits this year.
