Bears at Vikings NFL Odds
Midwest rivals meet in a big game in the NFC North Division as the Chicago Bears visit the Minnesota Vikings. The winner of the game on Sunday get a leg-up in the divisional standings, but the Vikings could use the win a little more since they’ve already lost to the Bears once this year. The Vikings have yet to really break out, mostly due to their lack of a passing game, but they are a very dangerous team. Chicago looked like they were on their way out of the playoff race, but have won 3 of their last 3 games, which has been good enough to keep them within striking distance. The Vikings are 3 point favorites over the bears and the total is 41.5 points.
Chicago has been solid on offense this year, but they lack a breakout player and an haven’t really dazzled anyone yet this season. They do score 24.3 points per game and gain over 300 yards of total offense, but when you break that out into 116 yards per game rushing and 200 yards per game passing, those numbers really don’t look very impressive. The Bears simply try not to make many mistakes, and that’s done well enough for them since they do have a winning record, but they will need someone to step up and be an impact player if they want to continue that success into the playoffs.
As a team that’s built a reputation in the past on their tough defense, the Bears have been far from that this season, particularly against the pass. They are allowing 244 yards through the air and are allowing a ridiculous 62% of passes to be completed against them. This has lead to the defense giving up 21.3 points per game. The run defense continues to be the strength of the team, where the Bears are allowing opposing running backs just 80 yards per game. They will have their hands full this week, no doubt, with Adrian Peterson in Minnesota’s back field. The Bears are 3 point underdogs on the road.
As previously mentioned, the Vikings don’t have much of a passing game, but so far their running offense has carried the load to the point where Minnesota has been able to win games. They are scoring 23 points per game on 321 yards of total offense, where 138 of those yards come on the ground. They are only gaining 183 yards through the air, however, which is obviously keeping them from becoming one of the elite teams in the league.
On defense the Vikings have been strong for the most part. They are giving up 22.4 points per game, but are giving up only 70 rushing yards per game and just 229 yards against the pass. They could obviously improve against the aerial assault, but when your rush defense is that good, who can blame teams for throwing against them? The Vikes come in as 3 point favorites this week.
This would be a huge win for either team, but the Vikings could really use the boost at home. Both teams play similar styles, so expect a low-scoring, hard-hitting type of game. This one should be very close.
