#1 The horse next in line according to oddsmakers, Casino Drive, is the half brother to both Jazil and Rags to Riches which are the last two horses to win the Belmont Stakes. Perhaps this race will be decided by the gene pool.

#2 Many know that the Kentucky Derby is known as the "Run for the Roses" because of the blanket of roses draped over the winner, but many do not know that the Belmont Stakes is referred to as the "Run for the Carnations" because of the blanket of white carnations draped of the winner's neck. Because the race is the final leg of the Triple Crown and because of its trying l.5-mile distance, it is also referred to as the "Test of the Champion."

#3 An anti-betting law was passed in New York which closed Belmont Park and put the race on the shelf for two years back in 1911 and 1912. When is the government going to learn to quit involving themselves in these matters?

#4 Before 1921, the horses ran in a clockwise manner in the Belmont Stakes as they did in English racing.

#5 James G. Rowe Sr. is the trainer with the most Belmont Stakes wins. He was considered the best jockey in the U.S. from 1871-1873, winning the Belmont Stakes twice during that stretch. He is also the youngest trainer to ever win the Kentucky Derby. James G. Rowe Sr. also won the Belmont Stakes as a jockey.

#6 Jim McLaughlin and Eddie Arcaro are knotted at 6 Belmont wins a piece in the history books for jockeys. McLaughlin road three consecutive Belmont Stakes winners during two different stretches to get his record. Eddie Arcaro is largely known as the most decorated jockey in horse racing history and the only jockey to win the Triple Crown twice.

#7 Secretariat is largely known as the best Belmont Stakes horse in history. His winning time of 2:24 in the 1973 race set a record for the race and a world record for the mile-and- a-half on a dirt track. He won by 31 lengths, which was the largest margin of victory in Belmont Stakes history as well as the largest margin in the history of American Grade 1 Stakes races.

#8 Sarava is the biggest underdog to win the Belmont Stakes at 70/1 odds in 2002. This win ended War Emblem's Triple Crown bid.

#9 In 1993, Julie Krone became the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race when she was aboard Colonial Affair.

#10 Twenty-six horses have come into the Belmont Stakes with a chance to win the Triple Crown, but only 11 have come away with horse racing's biggest prize.
