Best Sportsbooks in Las Vegas
There’s no place like Sin City to wager on sports. If you have never made the trip, you need to start planning one. March Madness is an excellent time to go and it will be here before you know it. As is the case with online sportsbooks, some Vegas sportsbooks are better than others. I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you a few or my favorite Las Vegas sportsbooks so that you can check them out for yourself next time you are in town.
MGM Grand Race and Sportsbook
After placing your bets at the MGM Grand, you’re not going to find any reason to leave as there are TV’s all over the place to watch all the games you are betting on. With 47 plasma big screen televisions (36 60-inch screens, eight 42-inch sets, and three 16-foot-by-12-foot monster screens) and 49 more individual 15-inch TV’s, this is the ultimate place for sports wagering action. A great wait staff keeps the drinks coming and there is always a bar near by if you need a cold one on the double. Lines are usually posted by 9 a.m. so you can wake up, do a little research, and put together your winning card. One of its newer features is its four second-level skyboxes fitting 8 to 10 people. This is a great way to take in all the action with your friends.
New York-New York Race and Sportsbook
I like New York New York because there aren’t very many better places in Las Vegas to eat and drink and catch a game than the ESPN Zone which is located right next to the Sportsbook inside New-York New York. The book itself is small, nothing like the MGM, but this one is all about the ESPN Zone. The sports book area features just six big-screen and three smaller TVs but they all have high quality pictures. The chairs in the sportsbook area are big and comfortable but just head on over to ESPN Zone to watch the action at New York-New York. Trust me.
Mirage Race and Sportsbook
The Mirage has been around since 1989 now, but I still think this is one of the best places to stay and gamble in the city. A great pool, a rainforest, a volcano, white tigers, and a dolphin tank are just a few of the interesting things that make this hotel unique. With all that hype, it just wouldn’t work if the sportsbook was a dinky little thing. The Mirage originates betting lines for MGM Grand, Ballagio, Treasure Island, and the Golden Nugget and offers a vast array of betting options that not all other books offer. The Mirage also makes its own rules. For example, at playoff and World Series time, odds to win the series are adjusted and updated after each game, rather than being taken down once Game 1 starts the way they do it at many casinos. You can bet the WNBA at the Mirage and also every game of the Women’s NCAA basketball Tournament (you won’t find lines on these things anywhere in Vegas). This gives the sharps even more artillery to cash in on. The Mirage does get quite a bit of traffic during weekends and during the Big Dance so make sure you get there early to ensure yourself a seat.
