Big 12 Power Rankings: Oklahoma Still Perfect

Written by Jimmy Boyd

big-12-power-211091. Oklahoma Sooners (23-1)
Every team in the Big 12 in giving the Sooners its best shot right now but OU is still unbeaten in conference play at 9-0. Baylor will try to hand the Sooners their first Big 12 defeat tonight. Oklahoma is a 3-point favorite at Baylor tonight.

2. Missouri Tigers (21-4)
Mizzou jumps all the way up from the No. 4 spot last week with its big win over Kansas Monday. The Tigers have won 4 in a row and 8 of their last 9. The Tigers will have to fight to keep this spot in the upcoming weeks as they end the season with Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M.

3. Kansas Jayhawks (19-5)
KU drops a spot as it endured its first conference loss at Mizzou Monday. The two-point defeat is hardly anything for the Jayhawks to be down about. I’m sure they can’t wait for the rematch.

4. Kansas State Wildcats (16-7)

With star forward Michael Beasley no longer around, it was supposed to be a down year for the Cats but they are hanging around the NCAA Tournament discussion with 5 straight wins, including one over Texas.

5. Texas Longhorns (16-7)
The Longhorns were ranked in the top 10 in the early part of the season but have not been playing up to their potential. A big win over Oklahoma State kept the Horns from sliding further this week.

6. Nebraska Corn Huskers (15-7)
Nebraska moves up from the 8 spot with 3 straight wins. 2 of those wins came on the road, where the Huskers have struggled in the past, and the other came against Texas. The Huskers will have their work cut out for themselves again as they play at Mizzou Saturday. Nebraska has already beaten the Tigers this season.

7. Texas A&M Aggies (17-7)
A&M drops 2 spots this week as it has dropped 2 straight games at Oklahoma and at home to Kansas State. The Aggies biggest problem has been scoring the basketball. At just 43.4 percent, the Aggies rank 189th in the nation in field goal percentage.

8. Colorado Buffaloes (9-13)
The Buffaloes make a huge jump up from the 12 spot this week. They have been playing good basketball against the best teams in the league, with their last 4 losses coming by 5 or fewer points.

9. Oklahoma State Cowboys (14-9)

The Cowboys ended last week with losses to Kansas and Texas on the road. Their upcoming schedule is more forgiving with Iowa State, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Colorado next. The Boys should be able to find a couple wins through there.

10. Baylor Bears (15-8)
The Bears have been, perhaps, the biggest disappointment in the Big 12 this season, right up there with Texas. Baylor has lost 5 in a row but it gets a chance to heal a lot of those wounds with a win over Oklahoma tonight.

11. Texas Tech Red Raiders (12-11)
A big win over Baylor snapped a 4-game losing streak, but life gets no easier for the Red Raiders which play K-State and Oklahoma on the road to finish the week.

12. Iowa State Cyclones (12-11)
Iowa State has lost 6 straight and hasn’t even been able to come up with any wins via its famous Hilton Magic. ISU gets a chance to end its skid with a home date against Colorado tonight.
