Big Games To Bet On This Weekend
No. 20 Syracuse at No. 17 Villanova Saturday February 7 at 12:00 EST
Every matchup seems like a big one in the Big East, but this one takes the cake Saturday. Injury problems were a big reason why the Orange lost three in a row, but now Andy Rautins and Arinze Onuaku are back and that meant a big 74-61 win over West Virginia Wednesday night. This matchup figures to be an even bigger test for the Orange. Villanova was thought to be a second tier Big East squad this season but the Wildcats want no part of those accusations. Nova has won four straight, including a big win over Pitt. Villanova is on a stretch where it has one five of its last six straight up and six in a row against the spread, making Nova the hottest ticket in the Big East right now. On the season, the Cats are 11-7 against the spread and 5-3 against the number at home. Syracuse is just 1-3 straight up and against the spread in its last four and is just 9-10 against the number on the season. Villanova’s recent success could provide some additional value in taking the Orange Saturday. We’ll have to wait to see what this line looks like when it drops. No. 14 Memphis Tigers at No. 18 Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday February 7 at 9:00 EST
This non-conference battle between one of the best in the West and last year’s national runner-up is Saturday’s best evening matchup. Memphis lost the bulk of its scoring from last year’s exceptional squad but it hasn’t missed much of a beat, off to a 19-3 start and riding a 13-game winning streak. Memphis backers have been raking it in this season as well and a lot of that stems from this team being better than odds makers projected going in. Memphis has covered the spread in five of its last six and nine of its last 12 lined games. The Tigers have done most of their damage at home where they are 10-2 against the spread this season. But they are just 2-4 against the number in road contests and that’s where they will be Saturday night. Gonzaga is currently riding an 8-game winning streak, and odds makers are confident it will be a 9-game streak when it takes on Memphis as the Zags are 10.5-point favorites over Portland Thursday night. On the season, Gonzaga is 9-9 against the spread so it has been best for Zags backers to pick their spots. At home they are 3-4 against the number. Who to take in this matchup could depend largely on how Gonzaga’s Thursday night game affects the line. Bet the matchup at Bookmaker Saturday night.
LA Lakers at Cleveland Cavs Sunday February 8 at 3:30 EST
Kobe and LeBron just put on two of the best scoring displays of the season at MSG this week and now the two will meet in Cleveland to see who will be up to the challenge in the head-to-head. The Cavs were crushed in LA back in mid-January, but they were a little shorthanded on the interior in that contest. Now Big Z and Ben Wallace are back in the lineup for Cleveland, but LA is minus Andrew Bynum so it will be interesting to see how the rematch plays out. I’m sure all NBA bettors know about Cleveland at home this season. The Cavs are a perfect 23-0 at home and 18-5 against the spread in those games. On the season, Cavs backers are wealthy at 32-16 against the spread in all games. LA is 16-5 on the road and will be trying to give the Cavs its first home defeat of the year. It is 12-9 against the spread in those games. Bet Sunday’s premier NBA matchup at Bookmaker.
Honorable mention is the San Antonio Spurs at Boston Celtics matchup Sunday as well.
