Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins Line

Written by -

The Buffalo Bills (3-10) and the Miami Dolphins (7-6) are all set to do battle Sunday in a Week 15 AFC East division showdown.

After back-to-back losses, including a blowout loss at Minnesota in Week 13, the Bills responded with a 13-6 home win over Cleveland. The big story for Buffalo was running back Fred Jackson, who rushed for 112 of the team’s 192 rushing yards. The Bills are undefeated this season when Jackson breaks the century mark.

The Dolphins bounced back from a Week 13 loss to Cleveland with a 10-6 win over the New York Jets. The Dolphins are now 6-1 on the road. The big story for Miami was its defense. It held the Jets to 280 yards and forced two turnovers.

This series has been all Miami recently. The Dolphins have won four of the last five straight up and against the spread, including a 15-10 win at Buffalo in the season opener.

NFL odds makers expect Miami to continue its recent dominance, listing the Dolphins as a 5-point favorite with the total set at 40.5.

Miami must defend its home field Sunday if it hopes to keep its playoff hopes alive, but that has been a difficult task for this football team. In fact, the Dolphins are just 1-5 straight up and 2-4 against the spread at home this season.

Buffalo may be 1-5 on the road, but it is 4-2 against the number in those games. Buffalo backers will also point to Miami’s longstanding deficiency at home in terms of the point spread. Consider that the Dolphins are 17-43-1 against the spread in their last 61 home games and 6-27 against the number in their last 33 games as a home favorite.

Getting a little bit more in depth, we find that Miami is 0-7 against the spread as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points under coach Tony Sparano.

Miami, however, may be able to erase the above goose egg with its running attack. Buffalo, after all, has the worst run defense in the NFL, allowing 165.8 yards per game.

Miami ran for 132 yards on 36 carries in its first win over the Buffalo this season, and Ronnie Brown and company could be poised for another big day.

Miami is 6-1 when it rushes for at least 100 yards on the ground in a game this season.

The defense has saved the Dolphins all season because the offense has really struggled to find the end zone. In fact, Miami ranks 31st in the league in scoring offense, averaging only 17.3 points per game. This number drops to 16.3 points at home and is a big reason why the Dolphins only have one home victory.

The offense was atrocious last week against the Jets, only managing 131 total yards and 10 points. With those poor numbers, the Dolphins were extremely fortunate to win. They will likely have to put more points on the board to avoid an upset Sunday against a Buffalo squad averaging 24 points per game on the road.
