Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Odds
The Buffalo Bills (5-5) and the New York Jets (5-5) are fading fast. They’ll both be looking to end losing streaks when they meet Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Odds makers aren’t giving the Bills much of a chance.
The Jets are currently listed as an eight-point favorite with the total set at 42.5.
The Jets have lost back-to-back games since winning three in row from Oct. 17 to Nov. 6. They blew a 10-3 second half advantage in last week’s 17-13 road loss to the Denver Broncos.
Mark Sanchez wasn’t able to silence his doubters as he completed just 24 of 40 passes for 252 yards with an interception. Four of his completions went to Plaxico Burress, who led the team with 64 receiving yards.
Joe McKnight led the way on the ground with 59 yards on 16 totes.
The Bills have lost three in a row since winning five of their first seven, and each of those three defeats have come by at least 16 points. They were crushed 35-8 by the Miami Dolphins on the road last week.
Ryan Fitzpatrick had a rough day, connecting on just 20 of 39 pass attempts for 209 yards with two interceptions. Five of those completions went to tight end Scott Chandler, who led the team with 71 receiving yards.
Fred Jackson, who ranks third in the NFL with 934 rushing yards, was held to 17 yards on the ground and was forced to leave the game early with a calf injury. He is currently listed as probable for this week’s contest.
Not only do the Bills need Jackson to play, they need him to play well. He leads a running attack that has been the key to team’s success.
The Bills rank eighth in the league with 125.6 rushing yards per game, but they only managed 96 yards rushing in a 27-11 loss to the Jets on Nov. 6, 2011. Buffalo has now lost its last three games when failing to reach the century mark on the ground.
While the Jets haven’t ran the football nearly as well as they did in the 2009 and 2010 seasons when they ranked in the top four in the league in rushing, the running game has still been an important part of their success.
The Jets, who rank 26th in the NFL with 96.6 rushing yards per game, have won four of five games this season when rushing for more than 100 yards.
They could have trouble breaking the century mark Sunday if starting tailback Shonn Greene isn’t able to go. He is currently listed as questionable after sustaining a rib injury in Week 11.
Backup LaDainian Tomlinson is also listed as questionable with a knee injury.
The Jets have won each of the last four in this series both straight up and against the spread.
These two have played to the under is six of the last nine matchups.
