Boise State at Tulsa Football Lines & Predictions
The 5-0 Boise State Broncos take on the 4-1 Tulsa Golden Hurricane Wednesday night at Skelly Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a non-conference clash on ESPN. With a win, 5th ranked Boise State stays in the hunt for a BCS berth, but it is going to have to play much better than it did in its last game if it hopes to get past Tulsa on the road. College football odds makers expect the Broncos to do so, listing Boise State as the 9.5-point favorite.

The Broncos looked pretty good in rattling off their first four wins and the pollsters agreed, sending them to No. 5 in the country – their highest ranking in school history. But perhaps the top five honor went to their head as the Broncos did not look like a BCS buster in their October 3rd 34-16 win over UC Davis.
This is a team which normally always plays with a chip on its shoulder, always out to prove its worth, but that wasn’t the case against UC Davis, an FCS opponent.
Boise State’s high-octane offense never found its groove. The Broncos entered the game averaging 214.3 yards per game on the ground behind tailbacks Doug Martin and Jeremy Avery, but they were held to only 101 yards rushing, which was a season low.
Quarterback Kellen Moore did turn in a pretty good performance, throwing for 285 yards and three scores, with two of those going to Austin Pettis, but Boise State shouldn’t have had to take to the air against a lesser opponent. Based on their nine penalties and their 40 percent third down success rate, the Broncos clearly weren’t in the game mentally.
And it just wasn’t the offense. The defense only recorded one QB sack and was not able to come up with a takeaway for the first time all season. Perhaps, the lackluster effort, coupled with a bye week, has helped to refocus the Broncos. It is worth noting that the Broncos are 17-4 against the number in their last 21 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0 points. If you like the Broncos to dominate Wednesday night, bet Boise State at -9.5 at BetUS.
If Boise State hopes to take care of business on the road this week, the defense is going to have to be up to the task against a Tulsa offense which is always fierce. The Broncos allowed a season high 206 passing yards last game and now they will be up against a much stronger Tulsa passing attack. Tulsa QB G.J. Kinne ranks seventh in the country with a 161.7 passer rating. He has already thrown for 1,142 yards and 10 touchdowns against only two interceptions. Last game, Kinne completed 21 of 32 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown in rainy conditions in a 27-10 win over Rice. History is certainly not on Tulsa’s side here as it is 0-4 all-time against the Broncos. But Tulsa has enjoyed one of the best home field advantages in the country, winning 13 of their last 14 at home. The Golden Hurricane would like nothing more than to put themselves on the map with a huge upset of a highly ranked opponent Wednesday night. Even if they can’t get the straight up win, backers may still be able to profit. It is worth noting that the Golden Hurricane are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 home games and 7-1 against the number in their last eight games following a bye week. If you think the Golden Hurricane can keep this one within the number, bet Tulsa at +9.5 at BetUS.
