Boston College @ Florida State Football Odds
Saturday the 20th-ranked Florida State Seminoles host the Boston College Eagles in an ACC battle in Tallahassee. Florida State is currently tied with Wake Forest for first in the Atlantic Division of the ACC with 4 wins and 2 losses against conference foes. because Florida State lost the head to head contest against Wake Forest, they must win their remaining two conference games and hope the Wake Forest drops one of the conference games. Boston College is fresh off of a convincing 17-0 win over Notre Dame, but the Eagles are already bowl eligible and aren’t really a factor in the conference standings at just 2-3 in the division. Florida State is a 6 point favorite at home against Boston College and the total has been set at 46.5 points.
Boston College’s offense has shown success on the ground this year with 151 yards per game, but they’ve struggled through the air, earning just 173 passing yards per contest. The lack of an aerial assault hasn’t kept the Eagles from scoring about 27 points per game, though. There’s a big concern at the QB position this season with Chris Crane who has more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (9) so far this year.
This is a very solid Boston College defense. After their shutout against the Irish last week, the Eagles are now allowing just 17 points per game and just over 275 yards of total offense. They stop both the pass and the run well, plus cause turnovers, so there’s not much more you could ask of the Eagles on this side of the ball. The Eagles’ defense has been solid, but their lack of a passing game is likely why Boston College is a six-point underdog this week.
Florida State has made a lot of mistakes on offense this season, but they are still putting up 36 points per game on nearly 400 yards of total offense each game. The mistakes I’m talking about are the 19 turnovers that the Seminoles have given away this year. If they can just limit their mistakes, they would no doubt win more games.
Defensively, the Seminoles are allowing just under 19.3 points per game and 265 total yards, numbers any defense would be happy with. The Florida State front-line is especially impressive, barely allowing 100 of rushing per game. They’ve also earned 28 sacks already this year and should find ways to get to Crane and bring him down or force him to make yet another mistake. It will be up to the offense to let the defense get some rest every once in awhile, and that means they can turn the ball over. Clearly Florida State has the better statistics in Saturdays game, plus they have the home field advantage and momentum coming into this game. Boston College has had a nice season, but their talent just doesn’t stack up very well on either side of the ball. Chances are the Seminoles walk away as winners this week.
