Saturday’s Free Picks

I do not personally bet any of these games as they are my weakest leans of the day and will not hit at as high of a percentage as the plays I have on the premium side. If you’re interested in where I got these lines, check out my college basketball odds pages.

Michigan State Spartans -7

It appears odds makers have done their job getting the public to bite on Kansas with this line. The defending national champs aren’t even close to the team they were last season and this line indicates that odds makers are expecting the Spartans to win big on their home court. The Jayhawks have still played some decent basketball to keep public perception of this team up, but the road is where the perception needs to come crashing down. Kansas is only 1-3 straight up and against the spread on the road this season. The Spartans are an excellent home team because of how disciplined they are offensively and because of how they get after it on defense. The Spartans are 5-1 at home this season and bring an eight-game winning streak into this one. Michigan State is 25-5 against the spread as a home favorite of 6.5 to 9 points since 1997. We’ll take Sparty. Bet Michigan State at -7 at BetUS.

Georgetown Hoyas -11

After back-to-back losses to Pitt and Notre Dame, the Hoyas will bust out the whooping stick today against an overmatched Providence team. Georgetown beat Providence by 10 on the road last season and is equipped to beat them by even more in this bounce back spot. The Friars are only 2-3 on the road while Georgtown is 7-1 straight up at home and 3-1 against the spread in home lined games. The major key here is Georgetown’s defense at home versus Providence’s defense on the road. The Hoyas are allowing only 54.7 points per game at home while the Friars are giving up 75.0 points per game on the road. Providence is only 2-10 ATS after 3 or more consecutive wins over the last 3 seasons. Bet Georgetown at -11 at Bookmaker.

Illinois Fighting Illini -18

The betting public just saw that Indiana nearly beat a very good Michigan team in its last game so it is taking the Hoosiers. But shouldn’t we stop to think why the odds makers would be giving us such a gift? Let me tell you how they’re not. Indiana plays with a lot of heart and passion at home, but it just isn’t talented enough to compete on the road. The Hoosiers have lost five straight. They are only 1-6 straight up and 2-5 against the spread on the road. Illinois is 13-2 on the season and 8-1 at home. Illinois is also coming off a lost to Michigan. With more time to rest and prepare, the Illini will be very anxious to get out on the court and that means trouble for the overmatched Hoosiers. Plays against underdogs of 10 or more points off a home cover where they lost straight up as an underdog, a bad team (20% to 40%) playing a team with a winning record are 97-50 against the spread since 997. Bet Illinois at -18 at BetUS.
