Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs Spread
The 2-11 Cleveland Browns visit the 3-10 Kansas City Chiefs Sunday in a Week 15 bottom feeder’s ball. Last week, the Browns finally had something to cheer about as they snapped a 12-game losing streak to rival Pittsburgh with a 13-6 win. But the Chiefs saw their struggles continue with a 16-10 loss to Buffalo. These two AFC squads haven’t met since the 2006 season when the Browns defeated Kansas City 31-28 in overtime. The all-time series is all evened up at 9-9-2 and NFL odds makers are expecting another close one, listing the Chiefs as a slim 1-point favorite with the total set at 37.
The Cleveland Browns have found some inspiration in Miami’s Wildcat formation. All of their offensive struggles this season have led the Browns to give the Wildcat a try to get Josh Cribbs’ hands on the ball as much as possible. Cribbs is well known for his playmaking ability as a return man and he has found success as a Wildcat back as well. The Wildcat was critical to defeating Pittsburgh last week and it just might be the key to earning a win over Kansas City as well.
QB Brady Quinn has shown some improvement in recent weeks and I don’t expect he’ll be lacking any confidence against a Kansas City defense allowing 385 yards per game on the season. Kansas City will also have to be able to limit the big play ability of wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi who is averaging a ridiculous 18.8 yards per catch. It is worth noting that the Chiefs are just 5-15 ATS in their last 20 home games.
Since winning back-to-back games straight up and against the spread against Oakland and Pittsburgh, the Chiefs have dropped three in a row straight up and against the number. In order to end the skid and to pick up their fourth win of the season, the Chiefs are going to need a strong performance from running back Jamaal Charles. Charles got his time to shine when the Chiefs parted ways with Larry Johnson and he is taking full advantage. Over the last five weeks, he is averaging 90.6 rushing yards per game and he has scored four touchdowns. He could be poised for his biggest day as a pro this week against a Browns defense ranking 28th in the NFL in defending the run, allowing 149 yards per game on 4.5 yards per carry. It is worth noting that the Browns are just 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
