Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Green Bay Packers Odds

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 15, 2011

The Green Bay Packers (9-0) will try to remain undefeated when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5) Sunday.

Odds makers like the Packers’ chances, listing them as a 14-point favorite with the total set at 49.

Monday’s 45-7 home victory over the Minnesota Vikings marked the 15th straight victory for the defending Super Bowl champs.

Aaron Rodgers continued his near-perfect play, completing 23 of 30 passes for 250 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Two of his touchdown tosses went to Jordy Nelson, who had 63 yards and led the team with five receptions.

James Starks led the way on the ground with 63 yards on 13 carries.

The Buccaneers lost their third straight game with a 37-9 home defeat to the Houston Texans last week.

The Bucs turned the ball over four times, and Josh Freeman interceptions accounted for three of those turnovers.

Freeman completed 15 of 33 pass attempts for 170 yards and a touchdown. Preston Parker hauled in his lone touchdown strike.

Former Oregon star LeGarrette Blount led the team in rushing with 34 yards on 10 totes.

The Buccaneers likely won’t have a shot to upset the Packers if they lose the turnover battle, a battle Green Bay has been winning all year.

The Packers haven’t committed more turnovers than an opponent in any game this season. They enter this week’s contest with a plus-11 turnover margin.

The Buccaneers have a minus-two turnover margin.

Tampa Bay has taken a step back on the defensive side of the football this season. It currently ranks 31st in total defense with 401.2 yards allowed per game. It ranks 28th in scoring defense with 25.9 points allowed per contest.

Tampa’s porous defense will face its toughest test of the season Sunday. The Packers lead the league in scoring with 35.6 points per game and are fourth in total offense with 409.7 yards per game.

The best way to slow down the Green Bay offense is to keep it off the field. The Bucs should have an opportunity to move the football on a Green Bay stop unit that ranks 28th in the NFL with 384.4 yards allowed per game.

The Packers have especially been susceptible to the pass. They rank 31st in the league with 284.3 passing yards per game.

Freeman leads a Tampa Bay passing attack that ranks 15th in the NFL with 233.8 yards per game.

The Buccaneers have won the last three meetings in this series with the most recent being a 38-28 home win on Nov. 8, 2009.

The Packers, however, have won 11 of the last 12 at home in this series.

In regard to the point spread, the Buccaneers are 8-3-1 against the number in the last 12 meetings.

As far as the total is concerned, the under has been the play. These two have come in under the number in 13 of the last 19 head-to-head matchups.
