Buffalo Bills at Carolina Panthers NFL Picks & Predictions
The 2-4 Buffalo Bills take on the 2-3 Carolina Panthers this Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina in a Week 7 non-conference clash. Last week, the Bills benefited from six interceptions to defeat the Jets 16-13 in overtime. The Panthers kept on rolling with a second straight win, defeating the Buccaneers 28-21. These teams last faced off in the 2005 season with the Panthers winning an ugly 13-9 game, but the Bills have won three of the four all-time meetings. The books have Carolina winning for a third straight week, listing the Panthers as a 7-point favorite with the total set at 37.5.

The Panthers won last week, but star wide receiver Steve Smith was not happy. Smith only caught one pass for four yards in the win and expressed his discontent to the local papers. I’ll admit, when you have a weapon like Steve Smith, you have to find ways to get him the football. The Panthers have certainly not had any trouble doing so in the past. But he has to understand where the coaching staff is coming from too. QB Jake Delhomme has been very up and down early on and if Carolina feels they can get a win without airing it out 30 times, they are going to take advantage. Smith needs to hang tight and not be a distraction. He’s going to have his time to shine this season so he needs to be ready. One must this week will be to get Jonathan Stewart some carries. He is averaging five yards per tote this season and the Panthers are 9-0 when he carries at least 14 times in a game. It is also worth noting that the Panthers have won eight of their last 10 against the AFC with Delhomme under center.
Defensively, it’s all about Julius Peppers. Through Carolina’s first three games, Peppers had only nine tackles and just one sack. Over the past two weeks he has recorded 12 tackles and four sacks. Now he will go after a Bills offensive line that has allowed 19 sacks already this season. It is worth noting that the Bills are 0-5 against the number in their last five games following a straight up win. If you like Carolina to keep rolling this week, bet the Panthers at -7 at Bookmaker.
Buffalo picked up a much needed win over division rival New York and it will look to build on that win Sunday. The offense continues to struggle, but the defense came up big with six interceptions last week. Getting linebacker Paul Posluszny back last Sunday gave the defense a big boost. In fact, he intercepted a pass that set up Buffalo’s game winning field goal.
QB Trent Edwards suffered a concussion and was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick finished just 10 of 25 for 116 yards with one touchdown and one interception. It looks like he will get the nod again as Edwards is currently listed as doubtful for Sunday. Offensively, I expect a heavy dose of Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch against a Carolina defense that is allowing five yards per rush this season. It is worth noting that the Panthers are 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games versus a team with a losing road record. If you like the Buffalo to keep this one within the number, bet the Bills at +7 at Bookmaker.
Jimmy Boyd crushed the books with a 4-1 performance on the gridiron last Sunday. Cash in big again by signing up for his NFL expert picks package this week!
