Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots NFL Lines & Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd

There’s no secrets about why New England is so heavily favored in this one. The Patriots won the last meeting 13-0 in Week 17 last year to extend their winning streak to 11 in a row against Buffalo. NFL odds makers have listed the New England Patriots as an 11-point favorite with the total set at 47.

The Patriots won 11 games in 2008 despite quarterback Tom Brady going down with a season-ending knee injury in the team’s first game of the year. Now Brady is back and the Patriots are expected to make another Super Bowl run. Their first task is to beat a Bills team that they have owned. Tom Brady has especially played well against Buffalo, bringing in a 103.3 career passer rating against his division rivals. While Brady looked pretty good in the preseason, it’s now the regular season and teams will be taking things up a notch. Buffalo will be the first of many team’s to test Brady’s mobility in the pocket. Teams will hope that sending plenty of pressure his way could get him thinking more about re-injuring his knee and less about standing in the pocket and delivering strikes. Basically, Brady just has to make teams pay over the first several weeks for bringing too much pressure his way and they’ll start to back off. If it rattles him, one of the best signal callers in the NFL may officially have his best years behind him. If you like New England to send a message to the Bills as well as the rest of the NFL with a blowout win in Week 1, bet the Patriots at -11 at BetUS.

While the Bills have been dominated in recent history by New England, they have won 5 straight games in the month of September. For them to build on this winning streak, they’ll have to jell sooner than expected. Bills head man Dick Jauron made the decision to fire offensive coordinator Turk Schonert one week before the start of the regular season. That puts a lot of pressure on new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt to call a good game this week. But the thing that Bills fans really want to see is how Terrell Owens jells with quarterback Trent Edwards. Owens only appeared in one preseason game due to a toe injury that has kept him from getting the amount of reps the Bills hoped he would with Edwards. T.O. is a good football player and I expect he’ll be pumped to go up against one of the best teams in the AFC this week, but that doesn’t mean that he and Edwards will be on the same page. T.O. will likely be on his best behavior for a while, but if a chemistry does not develop, we will see another implosion from the manic wideout. If you think Buffalo can keep this one close, bet the Bills at +11 at BetUS.
