Buffalo Bills at Tennessee Titans NFL Picks & Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 11, 2009

Since starting the season 0-6, the Tennessee Titans have rattled off consecutive wins. They’ll look to make it three in a row at home this week when they host the Buffalo Bills. Last week, Tennessee used four takeaways to earn a 34-27 win over the 49ers. Buffalo was idle. These two teams last met in the 2006 season with Tennessee coming away with a thrilling 30-29 win. The Titans have won five of the last six meetings and own a 25-16 lead in the all-time series. NFL lines makers like Tennessee to make in three straight, listing the Titans as a 6.5-point favorite with the total set at 40.5.

The off week figures to serve Buffalo well considering it is 14-6 all-time following a bye week. It may also serve the Bills well to get starting QB Trent Edwards back in the lineup. Edwards has missed the last two games with a concussion but all signs point to him getting back in the starting lineup Sunday. Hopefully, he can help jump start an offense that has only managed 30 total points in the two games without him.

It has been a difficult season for Terrell Owens, statistically one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game. But maybe he’ll be all smiles this week as Edwards steps back on the field and he has a chance to go after the league’s worst passing defense. To this point, Owens is on pace for his worst season statistically since his rookie campaign. He has just 23 catches for 281 yards and one touchdown on the year. It is worth noting that the Bills are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and on an impressive 26-9-1 ATS run versus teams with a losing record. If you like Buffalo to continue its post-bye week success, bet the Bills at +6.5 at BetUS.

It took a while, but Vince Young finally reclaimed his job as Titans starting QB in Week 8. In fact, the Titans have now won Young’s last six starts. So far, the once mistake-prone QB seems to have turned a corner. He isn’t doing anything spectacular, but he is giving his team an opportunity to win games by making better decisions with the football. You really don’t have to be all that spectacular when you have one of the NFL’s best running games behind you. In fact, Titans tailback Chris Johnson leads the NFL with 959 yards and is averaging a ridiculous 6.7 yards per carry. Getting Johnson the ball will be the key to victory Sunday against a Bills team that has been torched on the ground in five of their last six games, allowing 171 or more rushing yards in all five of those contests. It is worth noting that the Titans are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up win. If you like Tennessee to keep right on rolling with another win and cover, bet the Titans at -6.5 at BetUS.
