2009 Buick Invitational Picks & Odds

This Thursday the 2009 Buick Invitational is set to get underway at Torrey Pines golf course for another exciting 4 rounds of golf. Tiger Woods is the 4 time defending champion for this event, so with him still on the sideline, its anybodies game this weekend. Surprisingly Phil Mickelson is the last player to win this event that is in action this weekend, as he won for the 2nd straight year back in 2001. There are a number of golfers who could take home the win this weekend, and to get you going on the upcoming action, we have broken the field down to the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots we think have a shot at winning this weekend.
Favorites: Phil Mickelson +800, Padraig Harrington +1200, and Camilo Villegas +1500
This is the first start for Harrington on the PGA TOUR, and we would not be surprised if this guy came out and really played well. Villegas is pretty new to the favorites rankings, but this guy is on everyones radar to really start putting some wins on the board. While Mickelson is the last player in the field to win this event, you wouldn’t of guessed it by the way he played last week at the FBR Open, as he was unable to make the cut in his first start of the season. We still like Mickelson to come out with a very strong performance this weekend, and we think it could very will be the first win of 2009 for this guy.
Middle of the Pack: Rory Sabbatini +2000, Luke Donald +2000, Charles Howell III +2500, Davis Love III +2500, Retief Goosen +2500, Aaron Baddeley +3000, and Nick Watney +3000
There is a lot of good golfers bunched up in the middle, and we think that the winner will actually likely come from one of these golfers. Goosen will be a popular choice because of his name, but the guys in this group that you need to keep an eye on are Rory Sabbatini and Charles Howell III, as we think both of these guys are primed for big years in 2009.
Long Shots: Ryuji Imada +4000, Brandt Snedeker +4000, Charley Hoffman +4000, Pat Perez +5000, Carl Pettersson +5000, Bubba Watson +5000, and Steve Marino +6000
A bunch of guys in this group are just sitting around hoping to grab their first win on tour like Imada, Marino, and Watson. Imada finished runner up to Tiger Woods last year, so he is a threat. Pat Perez is the only player in action that has won in 2009, and Hoffman nearly won last week, as he took Kenny Perry to a playoff at the FBR Open. If we had to choose one guy it would Imada just based off his recent success and the confidence he will have attacking this course.
