Georgia Bulldogs v. Florida Gators Football Predictions & Odds

The Florida Gators take on the Georgia Bulldogs in a battle of top 10 teams in one of the biggest SEC matchups of the year Saturday. Odds makers seem to agree with the pollsters and have made the higher rated Gators 6-point favorites with the total set at 56.5.
Since has now won three straight games to improve to 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play after crushing Kentucky 63-5 last week.
The Dawgs are also 4-1 in league play, tied with the Gators atop the SEC East standing. They also come in with a three-game winning streak which includes a 52-38 crushing of LSU on October 25th.
The winner of this pivotal SEC game will need just one more league win to clinch a spot in this year’s SEC title game.
History is on the side of the Bulldogs as Georgia holds a 46-37-2 all-time series lead. Georgia also prevailed 42-30 last season.
Florida did not come out of the gate looking like the offensive juggernaut that we expected them to be, but the Gators have really kicked things into high gear the past few weeks. Much of that can be attributed to the play of Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
Tebow leads a balanced attack that averages nearly 200 yards rushing per game and puts up over 214 yards passing per contest. And Tebow has not been doing it alone. Percy Harvin has proven to be one of the most dangerous offensive players in the nation. He has 26 grabs for 429 yards and six touchdowns this season.
Coming into the season, the Gators knew they needed to improve defensively if they were going to reserve a spot in the SEC title game and that they have. Florida ranks right up there with the best in the country allowing only 11.9 points per game. The pass defense has also been spectacular, allowing only 170.7 yards per game. The Gators also bring a +10 turnover margin into this contest.
The quarterback of the defense is linebacker Brandon Spikes. He leads the team with 52 tackles and also has 5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two picks.
Georgia has been doing a fair share of its offensive damage on the ground with standout tailback Knowshon Moreno. Moreno ran all over the LSU Tigers for 172 yards and a touchdown in last week’s big win.
Moreno has lived up to every bit of the hype this season, averaging over six yards per carry and gaining 925 yards and added 12 touchdowns to this point. The strong ground attack has helped Georgia open things up through the air as well.
QB Matthew Stafford already has 1.946 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. Wide receivers A.J. Green and Mohamed Massaquoi have been on the receiving end of most of his passes.
The defense does not get the attention that it deserves on this team, but it was big plays by middle linebacker Darryl Gamble that sealed the win against LSU last week. Gamble returned two interceptions for scores.
Big plays have been the calling card of this Georgia defense. The unit has recorded 44 tackles for loss on the season as well as eight interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
This matchup is no doubt as good as it gets in the SEC this season, but I think the Gators will have just a few too many weapons. Urban Meyer will also not let his team forget about the 12-point loss the Dawgs handed them last season. So I think the revenge factor looks good for Florida as well. Thirdly, this is more or less a home game with it being played in Jacksonville. We’ll bet the Gators at -6 at BetUS. Receive up to a 50% sign up bonus when you open a new account.
