BYU comes in with the nation’s longest active winning streak. Last week’s 41-17 win over Northern Iowa was the Cougars 12th straight victory. BYU was not sharp in the win however. The Cougars fumbled the football four times in the second half. They know they will have to be much better this week if they hope to earn their first ever win at Washington. Washington may be young, but it also has a roster full of high school all-americans unlike Northern Iowa.
QB Max Hall was sensational in his season debut, connecting on 34-of-41 passes for 486 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Dennis Pitta had a career-high 213 yards receiving. The defense wasn’t too shabby either, limiting the Panthers to just 10 points.
The Northern Iowa Panthers were within 10 points with one quarter to go because of BYU’s faulty ball security. They do not want to give the Huskies the same window of opportunity.
BYU has not lost since it played Tulsa last September 15th. Nine of its wins since then have been by at least a touchdown. If you like the Cougars to be much sharper this week and to crush the Huskies, you can bet BYU at -9 JustBet Sportsbook.
The Cougar defense is not supposed to be as good as it was a season ago after losing eight defensive starters. This defense held the Northern Iowa Panthers to only one offensive touchdown last week, but they don’t have a player like Jake Locker on their squad.
Washington and head coach Tyrone Willingham are already starting to feel the heat after being blown out 44-10 on the road at Oregon in week 1. The Huskies are now just 11-26 under Willingham. Ten of Washington’s starters in that game were either freshman or sophomores so it shouldn’t be too surprising that the Ducks were able to gain more than twice the yardage that Washington gained. The program is accepting no excuses and fully expects Willingham to win now or else.
Willingham was disappointed with his team’s performance and he will be looking to rally the troops as a big upset win over BYU and a decent showing in the Pac-10 could save his job. The Huskies do have some history on their side this week. Washington has won four of its six meetings overall with BYU and all three at Husky Stadium in Seattle. If Washington wants this streak to continue, Jake Locker is going to have to be on his A-game. I expect him to play much better than he did on the road last week as he only managed 103 yards passing and 57 on the ground. BYU has had the Pac-10’s number, winning three of its last four against the conference, including bowl wins over UCLA and Oregon the past two seasons. The Huskies no they are capable of playing better than they did last week and they are going to have to to beat a solid BYU team. If you think the Huskies can bounce back this week, bet them at +9 at BetUS Sportsbook.
