A big fight night is coming up on June 9th and if you want to get some boxing betting then take a look at these Judah Cotto odds from a couple of leading online sportsbooks. Zab “The Jab Super” Judah is the underdog coming in this fight even though he is a former champion at junior welterweight and former undisputed champion in the welterweight division. This guy is one of the fastest in boxing with both his hands and his feet, but has a problem of being a showboater who can get caught up in putting on a show and losing his concentration. Judah was suspended for the first time back in November of 2001 when he lost to Kostya Tszyu, giving up his junior welterweight title. Judah thought the fight was stopped prematurely and pushed his gloved-fist into the throat of the ref before returning to his corner and throwing his ring stool at him. He came back and was successful once again, until when he was losing in the 10th round to Floyd Mayweather, he gave him a low blow and a punch to the back of Mayweather’s head. A riot then broke out and while Mayweather stood in the corner, Judah got invovled in the ensuing melee and as a result was suspended once again. This will be only the second fight since his suspension and in the fight fight against Ruben Galvan looked pretty convincing that he is on a mission.

Miguel Angel Cotto comes into this match undefeated at 29-0 with 24 knockout victories. He is a favorite over Judah, mostly because of his track record and also because he has been fighting consistently while Judah was suspended. Cotto has beaten a lot of big names in his division and has been ranked no. 1 in the division since September of 2003 when he knocked out Demetrio Ceballos in the seventh round. Cotto had a great 2004 when he beat Sammy Sosa’s cousing, Victoriano Sosa by knockout in the fourth and Lovemore Ndou in a twelve round unanimous decision. He has since moved up to the Welterweight division in order to find some stiffer competition and to prove himself even more. His first fight took place in December when he took the WBA title from Carlos Quintana in a corner stoppage before the sixth round. He has had one title defense and scored a technical knockout in the eleventh over Oktay Urkal on March 4th. If Cotto can get through Judah then there is talk about him facing Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather Jr, or Kermit Cintron later this year.

On Saturday, May 31st at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Zab Judah will throw down for bragging rights in a welterweight bout. BodogLife Sportsbook lists Shane Mosley as the commanding -525 favorite. Find out if Judah will be worth an underdog wager or if the favorite will handle his business in Jimmy Boyd’s Mosley – Judah odds and predictions article.

“Sugar” Shane Mosley has had a decorated career, winning world titles in three different weight classes. He is famously known as the only boxer to have defeated “The Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya twice. Mosley has a professional record of 44 wins, five losses, and one no contest. Of his 44 victories, 37 have come by way of knockout. There’s one thing we can bet on for certain here and that is that Judah won’t be able to knock out Mosley. Mosley has never been knocked out in his professional career and I don’t see it starting here. Mosley enters this fight off a loss to WBA Welterweight champ Miguel Cotto who beat him in a unanimous decision last November. He will be looking for revenge here, but I can assure you that it will be no picnic with Judah.

Zab “Super” Judah is six years Mosley’s junior and this could play to his advantage here. He is a former junior welterweight division champion and a former undisputed welterweight division champ. In his last fight, he defeated Ryan Davis for the vacant IBC light middleweight belt. He has a professional record of 36 wins and five losses. 25 of those wins have come by knockout. Like Mosley, Judah has also recently fought Cotto. Judah hurt Cotto early, staggering him with a vicious uppercut and then snapping his head back with two powerful straight lefts. But Cotto was able to stop the onslaught with an accidental low blow which sent Judah to the ground. Cotto hit him with another low blow early in the third round. If it weren’t for those, Judah might be the WBA Welterweight champ right now.

I’m going to stay away from picking a side here as it’s hard to say which Mosley is going to show up. In a bounce back fight, he could be deadly as he looks to show the world he can still box to get a rematch with Cotto. However, the rounds bet shows very good value. I really like the over 9.5 rounds wager. I already told you guys that Mosley just doesn’t go down and I expect Judah to fight even more technically sound than he did against Cotto here. In the fight with Cotto, Judah still made it to the 11th round despite the two deadly low blows that he took early on. The guy is tough and his youth gives him the edge in terms of endurance. We’ll make our wager on this fight on the over 9.5 rounds.

Boxing’s richest fighter of all-time, Oscar “The Golden Boy” De La Hoya takes on Steve “Two Pounds” Forbes on Saturday May 3rd at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, and Bodoglife.com lists De La Hoya as the overwhelming -2000 favorite to win the fight. I see him listed as high as a -3333 favorite at Sportsinteraction. With this just scheduled to be a tune up fight for De La Hoya’s rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. scheduled for September 20th, 2008, oddsmakers are giving Forbes absolutely no shot. With the value in taking Forbes very high with the chance for a big reward with little risk, he is sure to get some action from value hunters, but will they just be throwing their money away? Get Jimmy Boyd’s take as he weighs the De La Hoya – Forbes odds.

Let’s cut right to the chase. There’s absolutely no way De La Hoya can lose this fight for the sake of boxing. Boxing doesn’t have near the following it once had with the UFC now gaining the public’s popularity vote. A loss to Forbes here ruins the hype surrounding the already schedule rematch with Mayweather and it likely wipes the bout out all together. De La Hoya has a career record of 38 wins and 5 losses with 30 wins coming by way of knockout. He started his career 31-0 before losing to Felix Trinidad in a 1999 WBC and IBF Welterweight Title bout. He has lost three of his last five fights but those losses were to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Bernard Hopkins, and Shane Mosely.

Stephen Forbes is a former IBF and USBA Super Featherweight title holder. His nickname “Two Pounds” doesn’t have anything to do with the ring. It is a reminder to himself and the world that he only weighed two pounds when he was born. So naturally a small guy like this wanted to become a boxer to prove he is tough despite his size. I’m just not sure he’s tough enough to handle even an aged De La Hoya. Forbes has an impressive professional record of 32 wins and only 5 losses, but only 9 wins have come by way of knockout. That is significant because the only real chance I see him having to win is to knock De La Hoya out. Bernard Hopkins is the only boxer to ever knock De La Hoya out so I definitely don’t see a boxer which has had trouble dropping Super Featherweights drop one of the best fighters of all time.

Let me rephrase what I stated earlier; I know Forbes is not tough enough to handle The Golden Boy. While it’s probably not worth laying a ridiculous amount of juice for a small return, unless of course you’ve got it to lay, we’ll likely look to make our wager on the over/under 9.5 rounds. De La Hoya’s goal is not to knock out Forbes. It is to go the distance to get his ring conditioning down and to work on technique. This fight is entirely geared toward his upcoming match with Mayweather so he’s not looking to wow the crowd with a knockout here. He did knockout Mayorga in his comeback fight after losing to Hopkins, but that was to show the world he still had it in him. He’ll have a different mindset here.

Here are the boxing odds as listed by BodogLife.com

Oscar De la Hoya -2000
Steve Forbes +1000

Miguel Cotto puts on the gloves to face off with Antonio Margarito on July 26th at Madison Square Garden in New York City in what figures to be one of the best fights of the summer. The WBA Welterweight Champ, Cotto, is the -175 favorite at BodogLife against the IBF Welterweight champ, Margarito. Oddsmakers are expecting a close fight, but Jimmy Boyd sees this one as a no brainer. Find out which fighter he’s putting his money on in this Cotto Margrito odds and predictions article.

Since defeating Carlos Quintana for the vacant WBA Welterweight title, Miguel Cotto has successfully defended his championship against Oktay Urkal, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, and Alfonso Gomez. Gomez was the last to fall in pursuit of Cotto’s belt, going down after the fifth round when the official stopped the fight following three Cotto knockdowns of Gomez.

On April 12, 2008, Antonio Margarito defeated Kermit Cintron with a 6th round knockout to capture the IBF Welterweight title. His powerful body punches proved to wear down Cintron much sooner than many experts anticipated.

These wins have set up a fight with plenty of hype in the loaded welterweight division, but when it’s all said and done, I have Miguel Cotto remaining on top. While the 32-0 Cotto, must go down sometime, this is not it. His challengers, especially Mosley, have been no walk in the park and he has mowed them down one after another. While Margarito’s win over Cintron was impressive, he had already beaten him once before and appears to have his number the way Mosley has had Oscar De La Hoya’s.

Cotto is ranked seventh in the world as the best pound for pound fighter by Ring magazine for a reason. The 27-year-old Cotto is still showing his youthful exuberance while the 30-year-old Margarito’s has come and gone over the last few years. He showed it against Cintron, but fell flat on his face against Paul Williams to lose his WBO belt in 2007.

I’m not going to be on upset alert here. Margarito will try to wear down Cotto with the body punches, but in the end, Cotto’s powerful combinations, which usually cause knockdowns, will be the difference. Take Cotto to win this summer blockbuster bout by unanimous decision.

As far as the rounds go, I see this one going the distance and BodogLife.com is giving us a reasonable total at a generous price in my opinion. While both boxers are powerful punchers, I expect lots of tip-toeing around out there as neither fighter will want to make the first mistake. Both of these guys are warriors and the two best in the stacked welterweight division in my opinion. I anticipate them giving the Madison Square Garden crowd there money’s worth with a full-length fight. We’ll take the over 9.5 rounds.

WBA/IBF welterweight title -Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, United States – Sat 26th July

Antonio Margarito +145

Miguel Angel Cotto takes on Alfonso Gomez Saturday April 12th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the WBA Welterweight Title. Cotto has successfully defended his title three times, but will Gomez be the guy who takes it away? Get Jimmy Boyd’s take as he weighs the Cotto-Gomez Boxing Odds.

Miguel Cotto is a former WBO Light Welterweight Champion and is the current WBO Welterweight champ. The 27 year old Puerto Rican fighter captured the Welterweight title in 2006 with a win over Carlos Quintana. Cotto has a staggering record of 31-0 with 25 wins coming by way of knockout.

Gomez made a name for himself by starring on the reality TV series The Contender where he ended up third out of 16 fighters. He has a professional boxing record of 18-3-2. Gomez has shown a strong work ethic that comes with having your father as your coach, but he appears to be out of his league here. Since The Contender, Gomez is undefeated through six fights with wins over Jesse Brinkley, Luciano Perez, Jesse Feliciano, Martin Concepcion, Arturo Gatti, and Ben Tackie

Let’s put it this way, BodogLife.com lists Cotto as the -1000 heavy favorite for a reason. The guy has been a champion of his weight class since 2004, defending titles numerous times. In Cotto’s last fight, he defeated Shane Mosely via unanimous decision to solidify himself as an elite fighter. Gomez hasn’t fought anyone close to this caliber and that will be made evident early on in this one. While Gomez has the will to be a champion, he does not has the raw ability that Cotto possesses.

If you don’t want to lay a big number here for a small return to get Cotto, you can bet the Under 9.5 rounds at BodogLife.com as we have Cotto knocking out Gomez.

Boxing odds on Cotto – Gomez at Sportsbook.com

Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins is listed as the +225 underdog as oddsmakers haven’t give all that much weight to his billing as Ring Magazine’s light heavyweight champion. Back in June of 2006, Hopkins defeated Ring Magazine light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver by unanimous decision to take over the title. Tarver didn’t look anything like the champ who had defeated Roy Jones Jr. twice. Hopkins returned to the ring in July 2007 to face former light heavyweight champ Ronald “Winky” Wright, Hopkins won another unanimous decision to keep his title. Now he will take on Joe Calzaghe of Wales who is listed as the -275 favorite. He is the WBO, WBA, and WBS super middleweight champion. Even though he is stepping up to fight in a higher weight class, oddsmakers clearly feel the, recently turned, 43 year-old Hopkins is at the end of his rope.

Hopkins has 48 professional wins against just four losses and has been a great champion, but youth is not on his side anymore. Calzaghe is 44-0 in his professional career with 32 wins coming by way of knockout. “The Pride of Wales” will be eight years Hopkins’ minor when this fight takes place. The aforementioned Ring Magazine lists the “Italian Dragon” as one of the top 10 best pound for pound boxers in the world. Calzaghe is the longest reigning title holder in any weight class in the sport. This guy has held the WBO super middleweight champion title for over ten years.

Calzaghe’s most recent fight was in November of 2007 against Mikkel Kessler in Copenhagen, Denmark. This unification bout was won by Calzaghe by unanimous decision, unifying three of his four world titles and surpassing the 20 titles defenses made by Hopkins himself and Larry Holmes.

While longshot lovers will blindly jump on Hopkins because of the value, we really can’t see Calzaghe going down here. His southpaw style figures to give Hopkins problems as does his stamina. Calzaghe also has the ability to switch it up and box Orthodox if need be. The power he packs with either fist is unrivaled in boxing. Honestly, Hopkins is getting a little too much respect with this line if you ask me.

Here are the Hopkins/Calzaghe odds:

Bookmaker

Hopkins +225
Calzaghe -275

Bodoglife

Hopkins +210
Calzaghe -270

Sportsbook.com

Hopkins +200
Calzaghe -260

Another great match will be held on July 7th, 2007 and we are going to break down the Klitschko Brewster odds so you can have the best chance of getting the most value out of your boxing bets. Dr. Wladimir Klitschko is regarded as one of the biggest names in the heavyweight division and one of the best fighters in all of boxing. He is sitting at 48-3 with 43 knockouts and is 31 years old fighting out of Kiev, Ukraine. One of Klitschko’s losses were to Lamon Brewster and now he is getting a chance at a little revenge.

Klitschko is the current IBF and IBO world heavyweight champion having defeated Chris Byrd for both titles back on April 22nd, 2006 in Mannheim, Germany. This fight was decidely one-sided with the fight being stopped in the seventh round by a punishing knockdown. He then defended his title by kncoking out Calvin Brock on November 11th of 2006 at Madison Square Garden in the 7th round. Once again he has climbed the ranks and is labeled as the man to beat in the heavyweight division. Klitschko is coming off a big win over mandatory challenger Ray Austin on March 10th. He won that fight in the second round by knockout with four straight hooks to Austin’s head. What was the most impressive thing about the fight is that he didn’t use his right hand once during the match.

Lamon Brewster is 33 years old and is known as Relentless for his punishing style. He currently stands at 33-3 with 29 knockouts. His last fight was back in April 1st of 2006 when he lost the WBO Heavyweight Title to Serguei Lyakhovich by unanimous decision. Brewster does hold an impressive win over Klitschko from back in April of 2004 when he TKO’d Wladimir for the vacant WBO Heavyweight title in Las Vegas. He then had three successful WBO Heavyweight title defenses before losing last April.

The fight between Wladamir Klitschko and Sultan Ibragimov on February 23rd, 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York is intended to unify a couple of the titles in the heavyweight division and help the sport move towards a single champion. It has been eight years since there has been a fight like this, one to unify the belts in the heavyweight division and these two champions are going to get into the ring and slug it out. Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield were the last fighters to fight in a unification fight, that was back in 1999.

Many fans have been driven away from the sport by the split in the heavyweight division and pundits are hoping this will breath some life back into the sport. Ibragimov is coming off a couple of impressive victories that brought his record to 22-0-1, the first was an easy decision over then champion Shannon Briggs back in June. He wanted to fight the WBA champ Ruslan Chagaev in Moscow, but an illness forced Chagaev out leaving Ibragimov to face an over-matched Holyfied.

Klitschko hasn’t been scared to fight a fellow champion and welcomed this chance to eliminate a champion from the ranks with open arms. He has proven himself to be a winner at 49-3 with 44 knockouts, and after winning the IBF title with a TKo over Chris Byrd back in June of 2006, Klitschko has seen dealt with Calvin Brock, Ray Austin, and Lamon Brewster. He is a lot bigger and more experienced than Ibragimov and is getting the nod with odds makers.

Most fight fans consider Klitschko the true champion of the class, and after the fight there won’t be much room left for speculation. There have been a lot of great fights lately, but it seems all of them have featured Floyd Mayweather in the lighter divisions. This should draw some boxing betting back to the heavyweight class and get some more interest flowing in the sport.

Predictions: Klitschko by Knockout

Klitschko Ibragimov Odds:

5 Dimes has Ibragimov listed at +475

Sportsbook.com lists Klitschko at -600

Antonio Margarito and Kermit Cintron face off Saturday April 12th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey with the IBF Welterweight Title of the line. Jimmy Boyd weighs the Margarito-Cintron Odds in this boxing preview.

BodogLife.com lists former WBO World Welterweight Champion Margarito as the -285 favorite. Last July, Margarito lost his title to undefeated challenger Paul Williams and after the fight Margarito heavily disputed the decisions, claming that the punches he landed were more powerful, despite being out punched almost 2-1. Margarito brings in a professional record of 35-5-1 with 25 wins by knockout.

Kermit “The Killer” Cintron finds himself in the underdog role this Saturday night. Cintron has an impressive professional boxing record of 28 wins and just 1 loss with 26 of those wins coming by knockout. Few boxers, especially in his weight class, punch with as punch power. KO Magazine has compared his punching power to Felix Trinidad and Thomas Hearns. While boxing is a sport in which one must exude confidence to excel, few fighters in recent history have proven to back up their words as well as Cintron. When Floyd Mayweather spouted off saying that any boxer could make the transition to the UFC, UFC president Dana White quickly issued him a challenge. Mayweather clearly was not prepared to back up his words as he apologized for the statement and said that he had no interest in fighting Mixed Martial Arts. Cintron, however, said he could beat the UFC fighters at their own game and that he would be ready for any guy Mr. White through at him. It is this self belief that has made Cintron a champion.

I like the value that Cintron is getting here and that’s who I’m going with to win this fight. He is a more explosive puncher than Margarito. And the younger Cintron will have better endurance in a fight that I have slated to go the distance. Take Cintron at +225 and Over 9.5 rounds as we get underdog value for both calls.

You can catch this IBF title fight on the undercard of the Cotto vs. Gomez bout on HBO’s World Championship Boxing. The winners of these respective fights could face off in the fall.

Margarito – Cintron Odds at BodogLife.com

Margarito -285
Cintron +225

With the big fight coming up, it’s time to take a look at the Mayweather De La Hoya betting odds. The Golden Boy taking on the Pretty Boy in what will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. De La Hoya has always been a huge draw, with a non-heavyweight fight record of 1.4 million buys when he took on Felix Trinidad in 1999. With six months to market and promote this battle, you can expect the buys to approach 2 milliions, which would be a boxing record. The fight will be on May 5, 2007 on HBO PPV. De La Hoya comes into this bout at 38-4 with 30 KOs, while Mayweather is a perfect 37-0 with 24 KOs. Both of these fighters have hinted at retirement after this fight, but it appears more likely that Mayweather, who wants to go out on top, will give it up than De La Hoya. Oscar is a great business man and he’ll probably earn a significant amount more than Floyd will in this fight (i’ts reported Mayweather will get $10 million and Oscar $25 million) , and he isn’t going to want to turn away these large purses when he’s in good health.

De La Hoya is putting his belt on the line, but this means that Mayweather is going to have to move up in weight from 147 pounds to 154. If Mayweather can take Oscar’s belt, this will mean he has held titles in five different weight classes over the course of his career.

Another key factor in the fight will be the Floyd Mayweather, Sr. factor. He has been De La Hoya’s trainer for quite some time but Oscar only wanted to give him $500,000 up front and an additional $500,000 for a victory. Senior wanted a straight $2 million but when he was denied he made up with his son and now will be in his corner for the fight. We’ll see what this means for the fight on May 5th and if we can cash in with our Mayweather De La Hoya betting.
