The Huskies are 8-1 ATS in all games this season and they are worth a shot for 1 Unit Saturday against the struggling Irish. UConn has lost by 4 or fewer points in each of its last 3 games so it is playing very competitive football. The Huskies lost by 3 at Pittsburgh in a game it really should have won this season and that same Pittsburgh team defeated the Irish by 5 points last week. The Huskies also played Cincinnati to a 2-point game at Cincinnati in its last game and I don’t expect I’ll have any arguments about Notre Dame being better than the Bearcats. Notre Dame needs a win badly, but the fact is that the Irish just aren’t that good. Defensively, they really struggle and the offense hasn’t been scoring points the last 2 weeks. Plus, UConn has had 2 weeks to prepare for this one, giving them the edge. We’ll take the points for 1 Unit.

No. 6 ranked Boise State puts its 10-0 mark on the line when it takes on 3-7 Utah State at Romney Stadium in an ESPN 2 WAC showdown under the Friday night lights. The Broncos have won 8 in a row over the Aggies, and only one of those wins has been decided by less than 14 points. The books have listed the Boise State Broncos as a 24-point road favorite Friday night.

While Boise State goes for another unbeaten season, trying to earn a BCS bowl bid, starting QB Kellen Moore is getting most of the praise. And that praise could earn him a trip to New York. The southpaw gunslinger is having a remarkable year with 32 touchdown passes against only three interceptions while completing nearly 68 percent of his passes. He’s really picked up the pace in recent weeks, throwing 19 touchdown strikes against just one interception in the Broncos’ last five games. His stellar play has helped Boise State boast the nation’s highest-scoring offense, which averages 43.6 points per game. Last Saturday, Moore threw for 299 yards and five touchdowns against Idaho. His favorite target, wide receiver Austin Pettis, was on the other end of four of those touchdown strikes. Pettis has set a school record with 14 touchdown receptions this season.

If the Broncos can win their final three games, it will give them their fourth perfect regular season in the last six years, but it gives them no guarantee of a BCS bowl. The Broncos ran the table during the regular season last year, but Utah, which was also undefeated and ranked higher, got the BCS bowl bid over them. I say over them because, as you know, normally only one non-BCS team is taken to play in a BCS bowl. This season, the Broncos may end up feeling snubbed again as TCU is also unbeaten and ranked higher. I’m not campaigning for Boise State here as TCU would seem to be deserving since it defeated the Broncos in the Poinsettia Bowl last season. You can’t complain about Utah last year either, after what the Utes did to Alabama. I will say this: if there was ever a year to take more than one non-BCS team, it would appear to be this one (at least where things stand right now).

All the Broncos can do now is continue to blow their opponents out of the water to gain additional voter support. While a blowout win this week over Utah State likely wouldn’t impress many, a blowout win over fellow WAC unbeaten Nevada next week might. The Broncos don’t want to get caught looking ahead though. It is worth noting that the Broncos are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings at Utah State. If you expect the Broncos to roll Friday night, bet Boise State at -24 at Bookmaker.

Utah State sits at 2-4 in WAC play, but it has been very competitive this season with three of its conference losses coming by four points or less. In fact, the Aggies played Nevada to a 3-point game back on October 17th. This will be Utah State’s bowl game, so to speak, and the Aggies have plenty of incentive to leave it all out on the field after going down 49-14 last season. The Aggies will have a little momentum on their side coming off a 24-9 win over San Jose State last game. The Aggies dominated the trenches, racking up 381 rushing yards. Star running back Robert Turbin got credit for 190 of those yards and scored two touchdowns. Turbin ranks 15th in the nation with 1,122 yards.

While the Aggies may be able to find some success moving the football on Boise State, the defense, which ranks 106th in the country, is going to have to step up. The Aggies are giving up 30.7 points per game on 436 yards of offense allowed. The good news is that number goes down to 24.7 points on 361 yards in home games, which is a big reason why the Aggies are 3-1 at home this season. While Utah State is 3-7 straight up, it is worth noting that it is 7-3 ATS this season. If you think odds makers are giving the Aggies too many points, bet Utah State at +24 at Bookmaker.

The 3-7 Colorado Buffaloes take on the 8-2 Oklahoma State Cowboys in a Thursday night Big 12 showdown on ESPN at Boone Pickens Stadium. The Buffaloes continue to struggle, having lost three of their last four with Saturday’s 17-10 loss to Iowa State. The Buffs have now lost 11 straight on the road and are being outscored by an average of 14.4 points in five road losses this season. The Cowboys defeated Texas Tech 24-7 Saturday for its second victory since losing to Texas on Halloween, and NCAA football odds makers are confident the Cowboys will make it three straight, listing Oklahoma State as a 16.5-point favorite.

The Cowboys have already lost star wide receiver Dez Bryant to a suspension so they definitely couldn’t afford to lose star QB Zac Robinson, who left the field of play after a collision with a Texas Tech player last game. As now, Robinson is listed as probably for the Thursday nighter and the No. 12 Cowboys desperately hope he can go. Otherwise, they’ll be forced to throw backup Alex Cate, who has never started a college game, to the wolves.

Robinson can win you football games with his arm and his legs. Last week, he helped the Cowboys defeat Texas Tech with his legs. He was just 9 of 21 for 90 yards through the air, but he rushed for a team-high 99 yards on the ground. Texas Tech versus Oklahoma State did not produce the shootout many expected. Instead, every yard was hard earned and Oklahoma State ended up getting just a few more. The Cowboys outgained the Red Raiders 357 to 333 and they came up with three takeaways for the second straight game. Robinson threw 23 touchdown strikes against just nine interceptions in 2007 and he came back with 25 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions in 2008. Right now he has 15 touchdown strikes and seven interceptions, but with two games left, those numbers could end up looking pretty good again.

Robinson threw for 217 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score in a 30-17 win over Colorado last season. It is worth noting that the Cowboys are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a home favorite. If you like the Cowboys to win big Thursday, bet Oklahoma State at -16.5 at Sportsbook.com.

This season has been another disappointing one for the Buffaloes, who are yet to win on the road. The goal at this point has to be to get to .500 in Big 12 play and that’s going to take wins in their last two games. As I already mentioned, Colorado has lost 11 in a row on the road. Looking back further, the Buffaloes are just 3-21 in their last 24 road contests. It’s been a struggle for the program ever since it was hit with sexual assault allegations while under former coach Gary Barnett. Such bad publicity makes it hard to recruit and was actually one of the reasons why Zac Robinson chose Oklahoma State over Colorado.

For Colorado to compete Thursday, the offense is going to have to find ways to get some points on the board. The Buffaloes have been held to just 30 total points in their last three road games. QB Tyler Hansen has given the Buffaloes their best chance to win. He led them to an upset over then No. 17 Kansas for the team’s first Big 12 victory and has played pretty solidly since. Last week, he was 18 of 38 for 258 yards and a touchdown and interception against Iowa State. Hansen has thrown three touchdown passes against four interceptions since taking over as starter. He’ll have to avoid any costly turnovers this week against an Oklahoma State defense which has come up with six takeaways in the last two games to have a chance. It is worth noting that the Buffaloes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as an underdog of 10.5 or more points. Central Michigan at Ball State Football Odds & Predictions

The 8-2 Central Michigan Chippewas take on the 1-9 Ball State Cardinals Wednesday night at Ball State Stadium in a MAC showdown on ESPN 2. Last season Ball State came up with a 7-point road win to cover the 6.5-point spread by the slimmest of margins. This season the Cardinals will have home field advantage on their side, but football odds makers are giving the big edge to the Chippewas, listing Central Michigan as a 16.5-point favorite.

Central Michigan is off to a 6-0 start in MAC play for the second consecutive season and this year it hopes it can end its conference campaign with a goose egg in the loss column. The Chipps will have an excellent opportunity to do so if they continue to get stellar play from QB Dan LeFevour and wide receiver Antonio Brown.

LeFevour is coming off a huge game against Toledo, completing 29 of 36 passes for 341 yards and accounting for six touchdowns. His two touchdown tosses moved him into 16th place in NCAA history with 92 for his career and his four touchdown runs made him Central Michigan’s all-time rushing touchdowns leader with 45. LeFevour also moved into ninth place in NCAA history in career completions with 1,058. But it certainly takes two to tango when you are a quarterback and LeFevour has had some good wideouts to work with. Brown moved into fourth place in all-time MAC receptions with 264 following a 13-catch game last week. Brown has 69 grabs for 734 yards on the season and 10 total touchdowns.

Central Michigan has had a tremendous season, and its defense is improved, allowing just 18.0 points per game in 2009, but the unit needs to do a better job of defending in the red zone from here on out. Maybe I’m being a little picky here, but the Chippewas allowed Toledo to score touchdowns on all four of its red zone trips. The Chipps also got off to a bit of a slow start against the Rockets, falling behind for the first time in conference play this season. These things aren’t major as long as the offense keeps hitting on all cylinders, but they could come back to haunt them later on down the road. It is worth noting that the Chippewas are 23-7-2 ATS in their last 32 conference games. If you like the Chipps to roll Wednesday, bet Central Michigan at -16.5 at BetUS.

When the Cards played the Chipps last season, they had their sights set on a MAC title. This time around they’ll be looking to play spoiler by handing Central Michigan its first conference loss. Ball State has definitely made major strides in recent weeks, picking up its first win of the season and then taking each of its last two opponents down to the wire. For Ball State to stay with the Chipps, it is going to have to quit shooting itself in the foot the way poor teams often do. Last game, the Cards were penalized nine times and five of those penalties were false starts. It was the second straight game that nine flags had been thrown on Ball State. The offensive line, especially, must show more discipline this week.

The good news is that Ball State’s defense is playing a whole lot better, especially against the run. The Cards are giving up just 114 yards per game on the ground in their last six games and that’s a big reason why they’ve been so competitive during this stretch. The Chippewas are averaging 170 yards per game on the ground so slowing down the running attack to make CMU one dimensional on offense will go a long way toward keeping this one close.

The player who could be a difference maker in the defensive backfield is cornerback Charlie Todd. While his coverage has been an issue at times this season, the junior really played well last week. He was very physical with the Northern Illinois receivers and in run support, finishing with a season-high 12 tackles. The Cards will need another strong game from him, and offensively, they’ll need QB Tanner Justice to take good care of the football and to make a few plays. He is coming off an 11 of 19 performance for a career-best 134 yards. It is worth noting that the Cardinals are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog of 10.5 or greater. If you like the Cards to keep this one within the number, bet Ball State at +16.5 at BetUS.

Iowa may be without starting QB Ricky Stanzi, but I expect the Hawkeyes to keep this one within the number as they leave it all out on the field with a Big Ten title on the line. Without Stanzi, I expect Iowa to take a very conservative offensive approach. Iowa is very confident in the ability of its defense to keep it in games and it will lean heavily on that defense here. Buckeyes QB Tyrelle Pryor is certainly not immune to turnovers and Iowa has one of the most opportunistic defenses in the country. Coach Tressel has been known to play it close to the vest in big games and I expect no different here with the way Pryor has struggled this season. Lastly, Iowa is 6-0 ATS in road games when playing against a team with a winning record since the beginning of last season. The Hawks aren’t at full strength but coach Ferentz will have them ready to play and I like them to keep this one much closer than the experts are figuring.

The No. 23 West Virginia Mountaineers (7-2) meet the No. 5 Cincinnati Bearcats (9-0) at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio for a Big East on ESPN showdown under the Friday night lights. The Mountaineers will be looking to spoil Cincy’s undefeated season while the Bearcats will be playing for their first 10-0 star in school history. Football odds makers are confident that the Bearcats will remain unbeaten, listing Cincinnati as a 9.5-point favorite.

Backup QB Zach Collaros has played extremely well while filling in for the injured Tony Pike, but head coach Brian Kelly has announced that Pike will return to the starting lineup Friday. It was a tough call for Kelly as he just watched Collaros lead the Cats to a school-record 711 total yards of offense. But ultimately, he has decided to go with the guy that led the Cats to a Big East title and the Orange Bowl last season. In six starts this season, Pike has thrown 15 touchdown passes against only three interceptions. He appeared to be well on his way to finishing as a Heisman finalist before reinjuring his non-throwing arm against South Florida about a month ago. But don’t think for a minute that coach Kelly won’t send Collaros right in there if Pike struggles. In three starts, the backup QB has thrown for 1,028 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception. In last week’s game against UConn, he threw for 480 yards and ran for 75 more with three touchdowns in all.

The Bearcats boast the nation’s third-ranked offense so scoring the football shouldn’t be an issue whether it is Pike or Collaros back there. The issue could be the defense, which is coming off its worst game of the season. UConn’s 45 points were more than Cincinnati allowed its three previous opponents to score combined. The defense was especially soft late, allowing 21 points in the fourth quarter. The biggest cause for concern is the run defense, which allowed the Huskies to rack up 201 yards. It gets no easier against star running back Noel Devine and West Virginia’s potent rushing attack. But, perhaps, the good news is that the Bearcats are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. If you like the Cats to remain undefeated and cover the number in the process, bet Cincinnati at -9.5 at Sportsbook.com.

In order for West Virginia to pull off the upset, it is going to have to keep the quick strike Cincinnati offense off the field by controlling the clock with its strong running game. Both Noel Devine and QB Jarrett Brown suffered ankle injuries against Louisville last week, but coach Bill Stewart expects both to play. It is absolutely vital that they do for the Mountaineers to have a shot. Devine is one of the premier running backs in the country, one of just 16 players in the nation who have already cracked 1,000 yards rushing for the season.

The Mountaineers are 3-0 straight up and 2-0-1 against the spread in their last three games at Cincinnati and pulling off the upset is an absolute must if they want to stay in the Big East title picture. It certainly will be no easy task, as Cincy has won 11 straight at home, but the Mountaineers were the last team to win at Nippert Stadium, earning a 28-23 victory back on November 17th, 2007. The Bearcats won 26-23 at West Virginia a season ago, but the Mountaineers should feel pretty good about that effort since they held Cincy’s high-powered attack to just 260 yards of offense. It will likely take another defensive performance like that to have a shot Friday. It is worth noting that the underdog is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings. South Florida’s fierce three-game stretch against ranked opponents is over. After losing to Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, the Bulls managed to defeat West Virginia to end the stretch. But things don’t figure to get any easier playing at Rutgers Thursday night. As I already mentioned, the Bulls have dropped three straight to Rutgers and last year’s defeat was their worst ever in Big East Conference action.

South Florida was hoping this would be a special season with QB Matt Grothe leading the way. But the Big East’s all-time leader in total offense went down early on with a knee injury. However, freshman QB B.J. Daniels has stepped in and played well enough to keep the Bulls in the hunt for a nice bowl game if they can take care of business the rest of the way. Daniel is coming off a superb effort, throwing for a career-high 232 yards and three touchdowns and adding 104 more yards on the ground in a 30-19 win over then-No. 20 West Virginia.

Having Daniels and not Grothe under center for this one could be a blessing in disguise considering that Grothe has thrown six picks in three career defeats to Rutgers. The Bulls are hoping Daniels will have the same magic he had against WVU last week and he may have to against a defense which ranks third in the Big East. Daniels may have to look to do more damage with his legs in this one because his go-to wide receiver Carlton Mitchell is expected to miss the game with a high ankle sprain. Mitchell is just just 40 receiving yards away from breaking Hugh Smith’s school record of 1,523.

With the offense likely to be hampered by Mitchell’s absence, the defense may have to play one of its best games of the season to come away from Piscataway with a win. Look no further than defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and two-time All-American George Selvie to provide the answer. Pierre-Paul enters with 9.5 tackles for loss and Selvie has 7.5. This team seems to feed off of strong defensive efforts. In fact, the Bulls are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. Rutgers fans remember South Florida’s last visit to Piscataway well, while South Florida fans are still trying hard to forget. On October 18, 2007 in a Thursday night national TV showdown, No. 2 ranked South Florida marched in 6-0 but marched out 6-1 after enduring a 30-27 loss.

For Rutgers to defeat the ranked Bulls again, it is going to need a strong game from freshman QB Tom Savage. Savage has done a great job taking care of the football this season, throwing only one pick in 168 attempts. Taking care of the football will be a big key to victory against the fierce USF pass rush. Savage is also coming off a strong three-touchdown performance, which included an 81-yard game-winner to wide receiver Tim Brown with just 22 seconds left to defeat UConn on Halloween. The win was Rutgers’ sixth in seven games. Brown finished with five grabs for 162 yards in all and is ranked in the top ten nationally with a 101.4 receiving yards per game average. He also averages a ridiculous 21.9 yards per reception to lead the Big East. It will be interesting to see how many times Brown can get loose this week against the Big East’s No. 1 passing defense. It is worth noting that the Scarlet Knights are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Toledo Rockets head to Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas Wednesday night in a MAC West on ESPN 2 showdown. Toledo will be looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to hand Central Michigan its first conference defeat of the season. The Rockets just may be poised to pull off the upset considering that they played the Chippewas to a 1-point game as a underdog last season. This series could not be any closer with both teams knotted at 17-17-3 all time, but the books are expecting a blowout by the Chippewas, listing Central Michigan as a 15.5-point favorite.

At 4-5 with three games to play, a winning season and a bowl bid are still possible and that’s what the Rockets will be shooting for. The QB situation has been a nightmare with injuries to Austin Dantin and Aaron Opelt. Opelt returned to the lineup against Miami Ohio last game but struggled. I expect a much better performance with Toledo’s bye week giving him extra time to treat his shoulder and to get additional reps. Even with all the QB problems, the Rockets are still averaging 29.6 points per game on 441 yards of total offense.

We can’t really expect the offense to be a well-oiled machine at this point with all the adjustments it’s had to make with three different quarterback seeing action. That means that the defense is going to have to play, perhaps, its best game of the year to pull off the upset Wednesday. That means that Toledo is going to have to try to find a way to contain Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour, highly regarded as the league’s best player. Three-time first-team all-MAC selection defensive back Barry Church will do his part. Church is in the top ten in the MAC in tackles (82) with 7.5 of them for a loss. He also has one interception and three blocked kicks. While, Church will do his part to make big plays, sometimes the best defense is a good ball control offense. While Toledo prefers to pass, it is a solid running team, averaging 144 yards per game on 4.6 yards per carry. The winning strategy could be to grind this one out with DaJuane Collins and Adonis Thomas to keep the high-powered CMU offense off the field. It is worth noting that the underdog is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings. If you like the Rockets to keep this one within the number, bet Toledo at +15.5 at Bookmaker.

We know about the high-powered Chippewa offense, averaging 50.7 points per game at home and 30.6 points per game in all games this season , but the key to Central Michigan’s success has been improved defensive play. Last season, the defense gave up 30.2 points on 423.8 yards of offense and those numbers are down to 16.9 points on 339.6 yards this season. The Chippewas have been getting stops this season and that is huge as it allows the offense to get more opportunities to score.

Now about that offense. Senior quarterback Dan LeFevour is running the show again, throwing for 1,848 yards and 16 touchdowns and running for 548 yards and nine more scores. The offensive line was a concern heading into the year, but it has only allowed 10 sacks in nine games. Plus, LeFevour is elusive enough to avoid rushes that would plant most QB’s on their back sides. It is worth noting that the Chippewas are 16-4-1 ATS in their last 21 home games. Ohio has not played since winning at Ball State on Halloween while the Bulls will be looking to recover from last Tuesday night’s heart-breaking one-point loss to Bowling Green. Buffalo has won each of the last two seasons in this matchup by double digits and football odds makers expect the Bulls to make it three straight over the Bobcats. Buffalo is listed as a 2.5-point favorite.

The 6-3 Ohio Bobcats are off to a 4-1 start in conference play and looking to continue their quest for a title with another big road win Tuesday night. Offensively, the Cats have transitioned into their new spread-pistol hybrid offense nicely with QB Theo Scott running the show. Scott has thrown for 1,437 yards and 13 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He’s played well, but his turnovers have hurt at times. He’ll need to avoid making costly turnovers down the stretch for Ohio to make a run at the title.

Ohio’s calling card has been superior special teams play and making big plays on defense. The Bobcats haven’t always won the battle of the trenches, but they have come up big on special teams, blocking four punts and returning three punt/kicks for scores. Also, kicker Matt Weller is having a heck of a season, connecting on 15 of 20 field goals. And defensively, the Cats are one of the best in the country at forcing turnovers with 27.

Offensively, Ohio must improve in the red zone. The Bobcats have scored only 10 touchdowns in 29 red zone chances and have only scored 20 times period in those 29 red zone trips. You have to capitalize when you get down there against good teams and that’s what the Cats will have to do down the stretch. Buffalo will not repeat as MAC champs, and it likely won’t even make a bowl game, so the task at hand for head coach Turner Gill is to keep his boys playing as hard as they can. Buffalo may be able to find success on the ground this week against an Ohio defense that has been susceptible to the run at times, allowing 150 rushing yards per game. While injuries have plagued the tailback position, Buffalo’s deep stable of running backs continues to perform. The Bulls were already without star running back James Starks so when Mario Henry and Ike Nduka went down with ankle injuries last week, Jeffvon Gill, who started the season fifth on the depth chart, got the call and didn’t disappoint. Gill rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown and figures to get more time to shine this week with Nduka still listed as questionable. It is Buffalo’s strong running game that sets up its passing game with Zach Maynard. Maynard has had a solid season with 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He joins Bowling Green’s Tyler Sheehan as the only two MAC QB’s to have thrown a TD pass in every game this season.

Basically, Buffalo has not been good enough defensively to get the job done this season. The defense played as well as it has all season against Bowling Green but it was not able to make enough plays in the fourth quarter to preserve a win. The unit figures to match up even better against Ohio, but how will it perform if the game is on the line again? It is worth noting that the Bobcats are just 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games as an underdog of 3.0 points or less.
