Both of these teams are very strong defensively with the Bobcats only allowing 91.3 points per game on their home floor and the Thunder only giving up 97.3 points per game on the road. You also have to like the fact that plays Under on road teams where the total is between 190 and 199.5 points, a well rested team playing 4 or less games in 10 days, a good team (60% to 75%) playing a marginal winning team (51% to 60%), are 46-18 since 1996, including 14-2 over the last 3 seasons. Both of these teams are struggling on the defensive end. Boston has allowed 103 or more points in its last 3 games and defending will be no easier tonight after playing a tough one in Cleveland Sunday. The Pistons have allowed 107 or more points in 3 of their last 4 and 105 or more points in 5 of their last 7. In recent years, these have been two or the better defensive teams in the NBA, but the fact is that they are aging, making it tough to defend on a nightly basis. In fact, these two teams combined for 205 total points with the line set at just 187 the last time they met. With this number still 10 points under the total score in the last meeting, I think the Over is showing some pretty solid value. In fact, we’ve seen Boston struggle defensively down the stretch each of the last two seasons as its veterans have worn down. As a result, Boston is 21-8 Over in home games in the second half of the season over the last 2 seasons, and we are seeing 201.3 points scored in these games on average. It is also worth noting that Boston is 18-7 Over in home games versus poor defensive teams, allowing their opponents to shoot 46% or better from the field, over the last 2 seasons, and we are seeing 202.7 points in these spot on average. We’ll bet the Over here tonight.

NBA Suspends Chicago Bulls’ Kirk Hinrich

According to Yahoo! Sports, Chicago Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich has been suspended one game without pay by the NBA for making contact with a referee.

The incident took place with 4:43 left in Friday night’s game with the Miami Heat. The Bulls lost the game 108-95. Hinrich is expected to serve his suspension Tuesday night when the Bulls take on the Grizzlies in Memphis.

The Bulls, who are trying to fight for a playoff spot in the East, really can’t afford to be without any more key players down the stretch.

Chicago has been hurt by the absence of Joakim Noah as he has been out with plantar fasciitis and isn’t expected back until late March. On top of that, All-Star point guard Derrick Rose has missed time with a wrist injury and Luol Deng has missed time with a calf injury. Both Rose and Deng are currently listed as questionable for Tuesday.

Hinrich’s absence will especially hurt the Bulls on the defensive end as he is their best perimeter defender. Noah’s absence has already hurt the defense severely. When Chicago made its big turnaround, solid defense was the catilyst. But the Bulls have really struggled on the defensive end lately, allowing their opponents to score 100 or more points in 10 straight games.

Make sure you check the injury reports to see which guys will be in and which will be out Tuesday night as it is sure to affect the NBA odds.

Miami Heat Suspend Rafer Alston for Rest of Season

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Miami Heat have suspended point guard Rafer Alston for the remainder of the season.

Skip to my Lou mysteriously skipped town without telling anyone in the Miami Heat organization why a week ago. But now, Alston has told ESPN that his absence was due to a personal matter with his sister. While he revealed that little tidbit to ESPN, he has still not explained to the Heat why he left the team.

Whatever the situation is, my thoughts are that Alston at least owed an explanation to the guys cutting his checks. While Heat president Pat Riley has every right to be perturbed about this, he has taken the high road.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family during this time, but we are at the point where we must move forward with the rest of the season during our playoff push,” Riley said.

In 25 games with the Heat, Alston averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 assists. If Miami were to make the postseason, his veteran experience would have proved to be an asset. Plus, he is a guy that can really get hot from the perimeter.

At least now, the team won’t be wondering when and if he’s coming back. They can start focusing solely on playing basketball.

The Heat have won five of their last six games and are next in action Sunday against the 76ers.

Gilbert Arenas to Change Jersey Number

Since reporting about Gilbert Arenas just about every day when he was under heavy scrutiny for bringing a gun into the Washington Wizards’ locker room a couple months back, I haven’t had too much to say about him lately, until now.

According to ESPN, Arenas has submitted paperwork to the NBA to change from No. 0 to No. 6 and the NBA has approved the change. If you ask me “Agent Six” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, but I guess “six-shooter” does.

Arenas has worn the No. 0 since college, famously saying that he picked it because that’s how many minutes people expected him to play at the University of Arizona.

So what’s with the No. 6? We reported a while back that Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has filed paperwork to switch from No. 23 to No. 6 next season.

We know James has said he wants to switch because he is making a push for the No. 23 (Michael Jordan’s number) to be retired. We don’t know why Arenas is switching yet. My wild stab in the dark is that he just wants to start new after his gun incident, like Kobe Bryant did after Colorado.

Any explanation from either player is likely just fluff. The closest explanation to the truth is that they want to sell more jerseys.

Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose Out Friday with Wrist Injury

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose collided with Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard in midair in last night’s game. Take a wild guess which player got the worst of the collision. Howard’s body contact knocked Rose off balance and Rose ended up spraining his wrist when he hit the floor.

Rose’s wrist injury is expected to keep him out tonight against the Miami Heat. While it doesn’t appear that the injury will keep him out for a lengthy period of time, it really comes at a bad time for the Bulls as they are already going to be without Joakim Noah (plantar fasciitis) and Luol Deng (calf) tonight.

“We’ve got to find a way to get healthy and weather the storm,” Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. “But there’s no question we are a battered bunch right now.”

According to Yahoo! Sports Howard offered Rose a suggestion. He told him to jump off two feet to be more on balance.

“I just want him to save years on his body,” Howard said.

NBA odds makers have listed the Chicago Bulls at +11 with the total set at 190 for tonight’s contest with Miami.

LeBron James to Return to Cleveland Cavaliers Lineup Friday

After missing two games to rest his body and his twisted right ankle, Yahoo! Sports reports that LeBron James is expected to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers lineup Friday. The Cavs will be playing the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Cavs realize that getting healthy is the most important thing right now if they are to make a championship run. Shaquille O’Neal is already out with a thumb injury and Antawn Jamison could miss Friday’s game because of a cyst behind his left knee. Anthony Parker and Mo Williams are also being bothered by nagging injuries.

The good news is the Cavs have a nice little three-day break in their schedule to get healed up.

From a betting perspective, it is nice to know that James will be back on the floor. While the Cavs were able to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in their last game, they did not cover the spread. It it just hard to justify laying points on Cleveland with their best player not in the lineup.

But now that James is expected back Friday, we will take a close look at the line to see if there is any value in backing the King.

In fact, Toronto is 3-11 ATS when playing on back-to-back days this season, losing in these spots by an average score of 100.4 to 109.6. Toronto is also just 4-14 ATS when playing its 3rd game in 4 days this season, losing in these spots by an average score of 104.3 to 110.9. New York Knicks Interested in Joe Johnson

This summer many of the games young superstars will be looking to land big money deals. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh are some of the most notable names on that free agent list. The New York Knicks are one of the teams that will be making a big push to sign one of these superstars. They would love to get their hands on James first and foremost, but there is growing speculation that James isn’t interested in playing for a team with so much work to do before it is a winner.

With that in mind, the New York Times reports that it is far more likely that Joe Johnson of the Atlanta Hawks will be in a Knicks uniform next season. Johnson’s name often gets left out when tossing around this summer’s big free agents, but the guy has turned into a perennial All-Star and is averaging 21.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season. Plus, Johnson played for coach Mike D’Antoni in Phoenix and the coach would apparently love to work with Johnson again.

The Hawks aren’t going to easily part with Johnson and the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls are also expected to express some interest this summer.
